1:58 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

The IMG Store has marked down its price on MacSoft's Age of Mythology and Railroad Tycoon 3 from $48.95 to $19.95 each.

In Age of Mythology, you command all aspects of your empire as you guide one of nine ancient civilizations to greatness. Gather resources, raise massive armies, wage war, establish profitable trade routes, build settlements, explore new frontiers, and advance your people through four distinct ages.

Players recreate history in Railroad Tycoon 3 as they build the ultimate railroad empire. They will see cities grow into thriving metropolises as they carve out their cross-country routes, and the prosperity of thousands will depend on their decisions as players acquire other businesses, dominate industries, and manipulate a realistically simulated stock market in an effort to amass a fortune greater than Vanderbilt.

World of Warcraft Site Gets a Facelift
1:09 PM | Jesse Brauning | Comment on this story

Blizzard has rearranged its community website for World of Warcraft. There is'nt any new content, but they have made some improvements to the way the site works, most notably by making the left-hand menu customizable, and by moving some links around. Blizzard posted this about the changes:

There is now a new menu on the left side of the website. If you place your mouse over select sub-menu items, an additional menu will pop up. Another new feature of the updated menu is the ability to customize the left menu. You can select which major menus to expand or collapse for future visit. For example, if you click on the "-" icon on the Account button, you can collapse the account menu. If you click on the "+" icon, it will expand again. Your preferences will be saved in a web cookie. We have also added some new buttons to the top of the site.
The site may still be under construction at the moment however, because it seems to be having some trouble loading all the way. By the time you read this, it will probably be cleared up, so pop over there and take a look at it.

More Quake 4 Info
9:48 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

GameSpy has managed to dig up a little more info on id's latest project, Quake 4. The info concerns the storyline of Q4, which continues where Quake 2 left off. Humanity is still battling the Strogg, a race of cybernetic warriors who have attempted to invade the Earth in the past.

his time, you're not alone. You are Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad, and part of Earth's next invasion wave. An army of soldiers are fighting with you and an arsenal of weapons and vehicles are at your disposal in this heroic and epic battle between worlds.
Given the above info, it seems that, unlike previous Quake titles, the player may actually have a team at his disposal, not to mention vehicles.

Little more is known at this point, though as previously announced, id intends to show off a bit of Quake 4 at the upcoming QuakeCon.

UN Food Aid Game
9:47 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Macologist has noted the recent release of a title sanctioned by the UN, titled Food Force. Meant to promote the World Food Programme, players are set down in a warzone on the fictional island of Sehylan. Once there, players must conduct air surveillance, deliver aid by means of trucks and helicopters, and construct farms.

WFP spokesperson Neil Gallagher noted, "Communicating with children today means using the latest technology. Food Force will generate kid's interest and understanding about hunger, which kills more people than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined." Both Mac (198M sea) and PC versions are available as downloads.
Those interested in trying out the title can download it directly from the WFP Food Force site. Macologist notes that folks should drop the .sea file directly into Stuffit in order to avoid starting up Classic mode.

Lego Star Wars Interview
8:31 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story

A new interview has been posted at CGOnline with Jonathan Smith of Giant, the original publisher behind Lego Star Wars. The game is an imaginative take on combining the two seemingly unconnected brands, and in the Q&A Smith addresses how they brought the two together.

Here's a snippet:

Computer Games - Was there any pressure to make the game more "kid friendly"?

Jonathan Smith - We set out from the start to create a game that *anyone* could play and enjoy. Obviously, that meant that we wanted to have fun with it ourselves – we’ve been playing LEGO Star Wars pretty solidly for two years now, and that would have been fairly depressing if the game didn’t have so much for us to enjoy, as experienced gamers. But we did also want to make something that we could take home with us, and play with our children; so, yes, the idea of being “kid friendly” was essential to what we were trying to do.

Aspyr Media is publishing Lego Star Wars for OS X and should have it out this summer, so stay tuned to IMG for the latest.

Monday Takeovers: Adobe & GameStop Go Shopping
8:31 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story

Two huge surprise takeovers sure to rock the computing industry have been announced this morning; Adobe is buying out Macromedia and GameStop has purchased Electronics Boutique. If approved, both transactions would create monster companies with little competition

While the former may not affect gamers directly, you can bet anyone involved in graphics production using Photoshop or Flash will be wowed by the news. Adobe is said to be offering 3.4 billion in stock, and while no product plans have been announced yet, you can be sure the overlapping products (like Fireworks or Freehand) will be affected.

GameStop's purchase of EB is valued at 1.44 billion and would give the combined franchise nearly 3800 stores with 25% of the marketshare (bigger even than Wal Mart). For more information, have a read through the Reuters article linked below.
