Apple Posts DOOM 3 Feature
9:45 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Gamers looking for some last-minute info on the upcoming Doom 3 should be able to find it at Apple's latest gaming feature. Focusing on the upcoming FPS, the preview looks over the basic storyline, new features, and new technologies behind id's latest offering.

One of the new additions is a PDA, which is used to download various forms of information, both for backstory and for use in-game:

Now your character carries with him not only an arsenal of high-powered weapons but also a PDA he uses to download important information from the computers he comes across. Some of the e-mails, voice recordings and video clips simply add color to the story, but others impart such vital information as supply locker access codes.
Sound buffs should be interested in the fact that the Apple preview also encourages players to hook up a 5.1 speaker system for maximum audio impact.

Also offered in the preview are a tips section, a list of cheats, and system requirements. As reported by IMG, Doom 3 is currently slated for release on March 14th.

Apple Seeks iPod Game Developer
8:18 AM | Conrad Quilty-Harper | Comment on this story

Rumor site ThinkSecret.com reports on a new job opening at Apple. According to a job application at Gamasutra, a recruiting site for the game industry, Apple is looking for a programmer with experience working with embedded systems and Flash. ThinkSecret speculates that Apple is looking for a programmer to write new games for the iPod, possibly utilising the color display to display Flash games.

From ThinkSecret's report:

"Flash experience" is another optional qualification, hinting that Apple may be adding Flash support to the iPod. Flash-based have taken off significantly on the Web in recent years, and their relatively lightweight footprint, coupled with a color screen, would make them ideal successors to the circa 1980 Brick and Parachute games currently featured on the iPod. "2D or 3D graphics programming" is the third and final optional qualification.

Five World of Warcraft Realms
8:17 AM | Marcus Albers | Comment on this story

A recent post to the World of Warcraft community boards explains that a total of five new realms have gone online for players of the MMORPG.

The five realms include Eldre'Thalas, Spirestone, Shadow Council, Scarlet Crusade, and Firetree.

The [five] realms listed below have just gone live and are now available to players. These give new players the opportunity to begin their adventures in Azeroth on untouched realms. They also give existing players who are looking to move from high-population realms the ability to create new characters on fresh, low-population realms.

Close Combat: First to Fight Previewed
8:16 AM | Marcus Albers | Comment on this story

Gaming mega-site Gamespot has posted a hands-on preview of the Marine's answer to America's Army, Close Combat: First to Fight. Currently in development for the PC with Destineer and with Atomic Games for the Macintosh, Close Combat is designed to give players the experience of being a Marine embroiled in urban combat.

The game is set in Beruit in the near-future, after factional fighting tears the Middle Eastern city apart again. You are sent in as the leader of a Marine four-man fireteam. You will battle Syrian Special Forces, insurgents, and capture important enemy leaders. As you acomplish these missions, you will need to protect inoccents, as well as reporters and cameramen that often show up on the scene.

Gamespot had this to say about the save system in the game:

After you accomplish a task, the game saves the checkpoint, so that if you die you can restart at your last checkpoint, rather than starting the level over from scratch. This is particularly helpful, because even at the easier difficulty levels you'll probably die a lot. In addition to the checkpoint system, you can save the game at any point in the PC version, though we found the checkpoints to be fairly well placed.
Head over to Gamespot to read the rest of the hands-on preview, and stay with IMG for any new information on the development of this highly anticipated game.

Custer Present Another Incredible Desktop
8:15 AM | IMG Staff | Comment on this story

Destop-guru Brad Custer has released another of his stylish desktops. The theme, this time around, revolves around Syndrome from the popular movie and game, The Incredibles.

Custer explains this desktop further:

Last week I focused on the evilness from another game which inspired another request from a faithful viewer to venture again in the realm of The Incredibles. Of course I am more than happy to honor all requests especially from those I hear from almost weekly. I've always been partial to the character, Syndrome, in the movie. It might be because his voice overs were done by Jason Lee.
Custer's latest creation come in various sizes and flavors and are available by visiting his section.
