World of Warcraft Euro Release Date

Blizzard's European division has announced their version of World of Warcraft will be ready for release one week from tomorrow, February 11. The company has been hard at work ensuring they have the infrastructure to support players across the Atlantic, and the game itself will be fully localized for English, French and German.

With the launch less then two weeks away, the European infrastructure is in the final stages of preparation. The second phase of the Final Beta has been launched, more than doubling the number of players in the game, making World of Warcraft bigger than the current and entire European MMORPG market. In addition, just prior to launch, the existing servers will be taken offline and wiped clean, which will erase all current accounts and characters. This will help us to ensure that the game launches in the best possible conditions and also means that all players will start afresh on an even footing.If you're one of the many awaiting its release in Europe, be sure to get your preorders in now, as there will be both standard and collectors editions available.

Aspyr this afternoon released the long-awaited Call of Duty: United Offensive 1.5.1 patch. Weighing in at an amazing 319 MB, the patch can be downloaded from our sister site, Macgamefiles.com.
The patch brings full compatibility with the PC version and is a must download if you own the Call of Duty expansion pack.

Ambrosia Updates Apeiron X

Ambrosia Software today released Apeiron X 1.0.1, a minor revision to the popular arcade game. Apeiron X is the arcade frenzy where you are dropped into the bug-eat-bug world of the mushroom patch. Now you must fight for your survival against Cheech the Pentipede and his gang of crazy critters.
Here's a list of bug fixes and changes:
• Revised preferences dialog recommends switching to 16-bit for better performance.Apeiron X costs $15, or $5 for registered users of the original Apeiron. To download Apeiron 1.0.1, head over to Macgamefiles.com.
• Fixed Sound_Tool errors that prevented Apeiron from launching.
• Fixed Internet scores reliability on both client and server, and

• Fixed point calculations when bonus exceeds 65000 points.
• Fixed graphics glitch when mushroom appears in top left corner.

The second installment of a chat log featuring the development team behind Red Orchestra have been posted in the game's forums. A mod for Unreal Tournament 2004, Red Orchestra has garnered both praise and awards for its depiction of combat during World War II.
The log covers a number of subjects, including their feelings on winning a handful of Mod of the Year awards and reasons behind Red Orchestra's success. They also discuss the development of Red Orchestra, including the amount of research that went into accurate WWII depictions:
The research database is now up to around 40,000 reference pictures and documents - and far too much of it is in the original Russian for my liking ! IGN's RPG Vault has posted a feature involving the interviewing of Community Managers on the World of Warcraft team. The interview takes a different angle from the usual Q&As, and asks the CMs about their own characters, game preferences, and experiences in the world of Azeroth.
Not surprisingly, like most players, each CM has a main character followed by a few alternates for variety. They also note their favorite races and areas on both the Horde and Alliance sides:
Tauren are my favorite race, hands down. Not only do I like the look of the race itself, but I feel that their homeland is rich with lore, and that enticed me to play as a Tauren.These players are no strangers to adversity either. Worms 4 Q&A

UK gaming site Computer and Video Games has posted a question and answer session with Team 17's Martyn Brown about the latest incarnation of the Worms franchise, Worms 4: Mayhem!
The interview covers the new weapons in the game, including the much-touted "Weapons Factory" option which will allow the player to create their own weapons, as well as a feature that will allow players to create their own worms.
Martyn had this to say when asked if Team 17 made a conscious decision to return to the series roots with Worms 4:
We'd always planned to continue the core Worms series. Forts was something else, which transpired through some market research with a publisher some time ago (mid 2002). The real feeling behind Worms 4 is that we wanted to get closer to the type of games that people enjoyed in 2D, which were generally much more strategic. I think we (in hindsight) made things a touch more immediate and action based with Worms 3D and neglected the strategy element too much. However, Worms 4 addresses a lot of the concerns; in particular, water deaths are now much rarer due to some new technology in the engine which provide low beach areas (this makes a HUGE difference) plus some of the weapons have a "Darkside" edge - as well as the level generator creating more strategically interesting areas.Worms 4 is being developed for consoles and PC, and has yet to be announced for the Macintosh. EA Makes Gamers an Offer They Can't Refuse

Electronic Arts and entertainment mega-corporation Viacom have announced that they will be partnering on a game based on the Godfather movies. The game is slated to be released this fall for Xbox, Playstation 2, and PC.
The game will allow players to develop a character and work their way from petty thievery to hopefully be accepted into the Corleone family. From there the player will carry out orders, earn respect, and make the city their own.
The announcement had this to say about the game:
Featuring non-linear action-adventure gameplay, The Godfather will offer gamers countless choices for solving the family's problems with brutal violence, skillful diplomacy, or a cunning mixture of both. From mob hits and bank heists to drive-bys and extortion, step deep inside the world of The Godfather where intimidation and negotiation are your tickets to the top. Players will use their powers of loyalty and fear to earn respect through interactions with characters in the world. Decisions made by the player in the game will have lasting consequences, just as it was in the mob underworld featured in The Godfather fiction.Of particular interest to fans of the movies is the fact that Marlon Brando granted EA rights to his likeness, and did some voice-over work with EA before his death. He will appear as Don Vito Corleone, the Godfather, in the game.
