Apple Updates PowerBook Line
8:12 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Apple has once again quietly updated its PowerBook line of laptop computers. Notable changes to each include processor speed bumps, with a 1.5Ghz G4 for the 12-inch, and up to 1.67Ghz G4s for the 15 and 17-inch models. Other features include an 8x SuperDrive, Bluetooth 2.0, an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 with up to 128MB for the 15 and 17-inchers, and two new technologies - the scrolling TrackPad and the Sudden Motion Sensor.

The new scrolling TrackPad allows for easier scrolling, and users can simply drag two fingers across the pad in the direction they wish to scroll. The Sudden Motion Sensor is used to protect valuable data in case of sudden drops:

The Sudden Motion Sensor senses change in axis position and accelerated movement. In the event of a drop or fall, the Sudden Motion Sensor instantly parks the hard drive heads so they wont scratch the disks on impact, lessening the risk of damage and improving your chances of retrieving valuable data. When the Sudden Motion Sensor senses your PowerBook is once again level, it unlocks the hard drive heads automatically.
The 17-inch also features an optical digital audio input for those looking for a little more clarity in their recordings.

EverQuest Mac Server Patched
9:32 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

The EverQuest Mac server, Al'Kabor, has recently received a server patch upgrade, according to a news post of the popular Macintosh fan site dedicated to the online game, EQ Mac. Here's a list of some of the fixes:

Reverted some spells that were broken last spell update. They include Alter Plane Hate, Sacrifice, Illusion Scaled Wolf, and some others.
Added group exp modifiers. A bonus percentage of 20, 40, 60, 80, and 80 will be added for groups of 2 or more. The percentage bonus for a group of 6 is the same as a group of 5.
Added a general 20 percent bonus modifier for all exp gained.
Names and guild names above characters heads should look better.
The Story dwarf in PoK should give out AA's for completing flags.
I Also reverted some of the other spells that were reported to be having issues in hopes that they are now fixed.
For more, be sure to head to the EQ Mac web site.

Lugaru Released; Demo Available
8:12 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Wolfire Software has announced the official release of Lugaru. Featuring anthropomorphic rebel bunny rabbit, Lugaru pitches players headlong into a conspiracy involving corrupt rabbit leaders, starving wolves, and the freeing of slaves.

One of the primary features in Lugaru is its combat system, which allows for a variety of context-sensitive moves:

Instead of relying on confusing button combinations to perform moves, Lugarus moves are all logical and context sensitive. For example, if an opponent aims a roundhouse kick at Turners head, you can crouch and then stand up under the attack to grab your assailants leg and kick him away. If you try and punch an opponent and he tries to throw you over his shoulder, you can crouch to roll painlessly out of the throw.
Lugaru also contains a stealth element, requiring players to clean the blood off their weapons as well as deal with sounds generated by players and enemies alike.

Those who wish to try out Lugaru can download a free demo from Wolfire's site or Macgamefiles.com. Movies and screenshots are also available for those looking for more info. Registration for the full version is set at $19.95.
