Airline Tycoon Deluxe Departs for OS X
7:59 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
Thomas Steiding of e.p.i.c. Interactive sends word this morning that they've got a new high-flying sim game in the works for the Mac, Airline Tycoon Deluxe. Unlike most flight sims, this strategic title actually lets you take control of an entire airline.
This is the second title in the multiple license agreement announced back in August for e.p.i.c. with the German-based game developer Spellbound Entertainment, also known for Robin Hood: the Legend of Sherwood.
Airline Tycoon Deluxe pairs a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor with the complexity of managing many different parts of an airline's business. Here's a rundown from the title's website:
Your abilities are put to the test continuously playing Airline Tycoon Deluxe: Will you be able to use your aeroplanes to capacity and land some profitable charter flights? Can you establish routes for lucrative scheduled flights? Aeroplanes cost millions; will you be capable of increasing the share price and obtaining enough funds by the issuing of securities? The game is expected out in Q1 of next year, so stay tuned to IMG for more information on a demo or system requirements as it becomes available.

Can you stand up for the construction of new aeroplanes in your role as an engineer? Are you able to avoid your competitors’ deceitful attacks? Accept this unusual challenge and win virtual laurels with Airline Tycoon. The deluxe version contains 20 new airports as well as new opportunities. It is as interesting for professional tycoons as for beginners.

Stranger in a Virtual Land: The World of MMORPGs Feature

What's an MMORPG and why have they become so popular? IMG Writer Alan Hogue, a MMORPG newbie and wannabie, recently spent a month checking out the various Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game available for the Mac including Everquest, Lineage, and, of course, World of Warcraft.
Here's a clip from the feature:
Some years ago the computer gaming world added yet another unpronounceable acronym to the English language: MMORPG. So unwieldy that you know it must have been coined for something important. Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, in which thousands of people from all over the world log into a fantasy game, take on the persona of some fantasy creature or adventurer, and then proceed to spend every waking moment nurturing their online avatar to electronic greatness, represented the next (perhaps the first) great step forward in immersive gaming. To check out the feature, please follow the link below.

World of Warcraft Patch Released

Blizzard has announced the release of the latest patch for World of Warcraft, bringing the game up to version 1.2.1. Of note to Mac gamers is that the new patch now enables vertex and pixel shaders for certain Mac systems thanks to the recently released Mac OS X 10.3.7 that includes updated NVIDIA and ATI graphic drivers.
Here are the Mac specific changes, as note in the change log:
• The vertex and pixel shader based graphic options have been reactivated on certain combinations of drivers and GPU hardware. As Apple releases future improvements to drivers we will continue to re-test and re-activate features on a case by case basis. A more detailed list of which driver/hardware combinations are enabled for shader capabilities, along with any known bugs will be posted on the Tech Support forum. Further optimization work on the client is ongoing, and we welcome your feedback at firstname.lastname@example.org.A much detailed change log is available for viewing by following the link below.
• Added reverb to sound effects when a player is in enclosed spaces.
To download the 1.2.1 update, simply connect to World of Warcraft and the patch will be automatically downloaded and applied.

Postal 2 Interview
7:59 AM | Marcus Albers | Comment on this story
Online gaming site Experience Gaming has posted an interview with Running With Scissors CEO Vince Desi. In the interview, Desi addresses numerous issues surrounding the controversial game Postal 2, from the company's view on violence to industry and media pressure. Vince had this to say when asked about the recent decision by Apple to refuse to carry the title either online or at their retail outlets:
I suspect just a misunderstanding. I’ve been a big Apple supporter since my 1st Apple II and I helped launch the original MacUser magazine. I have tremendous respect for the folks at Apple, especially those that care about Mac gaming. Retail sales are about retailers and distributors not OEMS.Head over to Experience Gaming to read the rest of their interview with Vince Desi.
