Football Manager 2005 for Mac, Demo Available

SIGames has announced the Mac and PC boxed versions of Football Manager 2005 will be made available this November. Additionally, a beta demo of the game is ready now for curious football (or soccer) managers to try out and provide feedback.

Football Manager 2005 features a revamped user interface, as well as an updated database and ruleset to mimic real life football as much as possible. Here's more from their game site:

  • Playable leagues in 43 countries.
  • More than 140 playable senior divisions and in excess of 100 playable cup competitions.
  • Reserve and junior league competitions.
  • More than 235,000 players and staff (from 145 different countries) with players boasting more than 120 separate attributes and non-playing staff boasting 40.
  • A database of more than 14,000 clubs, 3,000 of which can be managed.
  • Data supplied by a network of more than 2,500 researchers from around the world.
  • Updated 2D ‘top-down’ match engine.
  • Improved ‘radio commentary’.
  • Increased interaction with the media.
  • Reworked injury system.
  • Improved scouting system.
  • Improved finance module to reflect the changing face of football.
  • Comments when negotiating with human managers (network multi-player game only).
  • Inclusion of U18 Caps.
  • More realistic awards system.

Apple Posts Close Combat: First to Fight Trailer

For those of you who have missed the chance to have a first look at Destineer's first upcoming original title, Close Combat: First to Fight, Apple has put up a mirror of the official trailer on their games section. First to Fight is a first person tactical shooter created with the help of over 40 marines to be as realistic as possible.

From the official website:

The Gamesome Mac Talks Solarian with Stick Software

On tonight's broadcast of The Gamesome Mac, the Mac gaming radio program, hosts Sean Smith and David Finley talk with Ben Haller of Stick Software about the classic developer's Mac OS X games.

Solarian II re-released last week in a Mac OS X-native version, was one of the first color games for the Macintosh, and has stood the test of time as a true arcade classic, while Trisection, Stick Software's first Mac OS X game, has been acclaimed as setting a new standard for Tetris-like puzzle games.

Sean and David will also offer Mac gaming news, reviews, and commentary, and together with their guest will take questions live from listeners in The Gamesome Mac's chat room and give away a couple of games.

The Gamesome Mac can be heard live on MacRadio from 6 to 8 pm Pacific Time, 9 to 11 pm Eastern (Tuesday from 0100 to 0300 UTC), and on demand thereafter. You can tune in at The Gamesome Mac's web page at the link below, where you'll also find archives of past broadcasts. QuickTime 6 and a 56K or faster Internet connection are required.

Pangea Offers Mac OS X Game Programming Guide

Pangea Software today announced it will be releasing a new game programming book titled Pangea Software’s Ultimate Game Programming Guide for Mac OS X in late October.

UT2004 Mac-Specific Installers; Postal 2 Update

Shortly after Epic Games released the Windows version of their Unreal Tournament 2004 Editor's Choice Edition Bonus Pack to the public late last week, multi-talented programmer Ryan Gordon quickly put together and posted an OS X-specific installer for the bonus material.

Gordon's custom installer, weighing in at just under 88 megs, includes both the ECE Bonus Pack and the required patches to bring your copy of the game up to version 3233, which is required for the Bonus Pack to function properly. From Gordon's website:

If you own any retail version of UT2004, including a MacSoft DVD, then the Editors' Choice content is all available to you as a free download. Most significant is the Editors' Choice Bonus Pack. If you have a non-ECE retail UT2004, and don't mind a bigger download, you should get this instead of just the 3323 patch, since many servers will require you to have ECE-BP content to join their games.
Unreal Tournament fans who haven't yet installed the new version and the bonus material on their systems should download the files using the link below.

Meanwhile, Mac gamers jonesing for more violent first person shooter action will be pleased to hear that another one of Gordon's projects, the Mac and Linux ports of Postal 2: Share The Pain, has almost completed its beta test period, and should be making its way to retailers soon.

Originally released for the PC in April of 2003, the Unreal Engine-powered title from developers Running With Scissors promises an onslaught of gratuitous violence, filthy vocabulary, and "unusual adult situations". The Mac version of the game started its beta test in April of 2004, and, according to Gordon, will soon be ready to see the light of day:

We're about ready to wrap up beta on the Mac version (FINALLY!). Linux one should wrap soon, too. Both groups of beta testers were totally kick [butt] and very thorough.
Although preliminary system requirements have not been officially announced, computers that play Unreal Tournament 2004 "fairly well" shouldn't have any problems with new Mac title, according to Gordon. Stay tuned to IMG for further news on this new title as it surfaces.
