Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons Announced
8:33 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

Aspyr Media today announced it will be publishing the Macintosh version of Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII, an expansion pack that lets you control bizarre and lethal top-secret weapons of WWII.

Here's a bit more info on the expansion pack:

Straight from Allied and Axis laboratories, many of these weapons never saw combat until now!

Defeat your enemies with a variety of experimental firepower, including the Wasserfall Guided Rocket, the Natter Rocket Plane, and the revolutionary Rocket Pack. Drop from a cargo plane behind enemy lines and prepare for close combat with one-shot-kill knives, new machine guns, and more. Give all of these weapons and vehicles a trial by fire on eight tough new battle maps.

Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII is expected to ship in October.

IMG has posted a first look preview of Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII, the upcoming expansion pack from Aspyr Media.

Here's a clip from the first look preview:

The highlight of the expansion pack are the new vehicles and weapons. All of them were either briefly used or on the drawing board during WWII. These wild and sometimes whacky items add tremendous new life to the game and creates some interesting gameplay.

By far one of the coolest things in the expansion pack is the new rocket pack which was actually being developed by the Germans but never made it past initial tests. After you pick it up, you'll be able to blast into the air at short intervals. While you won't be able to hover with the rock pack, you can jump atop buildings, cross bridgeless rivers, and more. Like other vehicles in the game, once you lose the rocket pack, you'll have to wait until it respawns on the map to use it.

Included with the preview are some cool movies from the game. To check them out, including the preview, please follow the link below.

Red Orchestra 3.0 Trailer Released
8:33 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

The team behind Red Orchestra has recently released a trailer for Red Orchestra 3.0: Combined Arms. An award-winning total conversion for UT2004, Red Orchestra is a multiplayer game that uses World War II as its backdrop, and strives to be realistic in its use of infantry, artillery, and weaponry.

Some of its listed features include the following:

Modeled Iron Sights
Weapon Sway
Streamlined Player Movement
Real Weapon Ballistics
Grenade Duds
Locational Damage Effects
Hand Wound Drops Weapon
Stamina Management
Links to the trailer can be found in both low and high quality format at the official RO site.

In related news, Mod N Mod has posted an interview with the development team that takes an in-depth look at RO's workings. Questions focus on the various new features, including vehicle and artillery additions.

In RO: CA, the tanks have many realistic features: realistic reload times, speed, turret rotation, etc. We have tried to keep a good balance between realism and making tanks enjoyable to use. For instance, no one wants to ride around in a tank and be the guy that loads the tank shell. As such we have abstracted tank use to three positions: driver, hull mg gunner, and tank commander/cannon gunner.
RO: CA is currently slated for release on August 27th.
