Feral: Republic Goes Gold, XIII Demo Soon
10:36 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story

Feral, the prolific UK-based Mac games publisher, announced today that Republic: The Revolution is now Gold Master. This means the game has received sign-off and should be headed into duplication in a matter of days.

Republic is set in a post-Soviet state where you are given the goal of building a revolution to overthrow the current goverment. Featuring a very advanced graphics engine and impressive AI, the game should be an interesting addition to a Mac gamer's library. Here are the minimum system requirements for the title:

  • Mac OS 10.2
  • PowerPC G4 1 Ghz
  • 512 Mb RAM
  • Hardware accelerated 3D Graphics Card with 32 Mb VRAM
  • 1.35 Gb free hard disk space
  • Mouse and Keyboard
For more on Republic, have a look at Feral's mini-site for the game.

In addition to this good news, Feral also provided an update on the demo for XIII, the highly stylized cell-shaded shooter. Here's the official word:

All you paranoid conspiracy theorists are in for a treat, as the demo of XIII will be hitting web servers some time next week.

Soon all you PCTs and FPS fans will have your chance to test out two levels from the full game. In the first level, wake-up feeling a bit worse for wear on the beach with a few nasty people who want you dead! In the second level of the demo, you must rescue General Carrington. He's the only person who can help you find out who you really are.

Check out IMG's preview of XIII for more on the game, and watch our news next week for the demo to be released.

IMG Previews Airburst Extreme
2:43 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

IMG has posted a hands-on preview of Airburst Extreme, the upcoming sequel to the popular game from renowned Mac game developers, Strange Flavour. Here's a clip from the preview:

Not content to rest on their laurels, the Fothergills have been hard at work on a sequel to Airburst. Titled Airburst Extreme, this title promises to take everything that made Airburst great and make it bigger, faster, and more addictive than ever before. While many of you (including myself) may groan at the idea of yet another title with the word "extreme" in it, I think we can forgive the hackneyed term in light of the fact that Airburst Extreme does in fact present what appears to be a steroid-injected version of the original, which bodes ill for my virtually non-existent free time.

Myth II 1.5 Final
10:19 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Project Magma recently announced the official release of Myth II 1.5 is ready for download. The update brings with it a host of enhancements, including the ability to run it it windowed mode in OS X, mouse wheel functionality, and increased efficiency of the OpenGL renderer under 10.3.3.

Work is also underway on the mapmaking tools so that they run natively under OS X. A comment at PlayMyth also notes the following concerning installation:

Bloo, the 1.5 for OS X updater includes an installer to install the whole thing from the CD, so people no longer have to download a separate OS X CD installer. Might want to change that, and save some folks some unnecessary downloads.
Those interested in grabbing v1.5 can find download links at Project Magma.

Custer Answers The Call
8:07 AM | Brad Custer | Comment on this story

IMG's Brad Custer is back with another fantastic Mac gaming desktops today. This week's desktop features Aspyr's latest shooter, Call Of Duty, which recently shipped.

Here's a little detail on the latest creation:

With the recent release of Call Of Duty from Aspyr Media, I've been receiving a lot of interest in a desktop for this title. Of course it could also be influenced by the recent holiday and upcoming anniversary of D-Day. In this week's offering I wanted to create a desktop that would honor the memory of all those soldiers who gave their life for our freedom. So, with the help of Aspyr Media and Activision, I was able to create this wallpaper. I simply entitled it, "Memorial", and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. :)
Head on over to Custer's Desktops for the latest in Mac fashion, available in a wide variety of sizes.

EQMac Attending Sony Summit
8:07 AM | Chris Stein | Comment on this story

EQMac.com announced recently they will be going to the Sony Online Entertainment summit this weekend, to represent the Mac-only Al'Kabor Everquest server at the summit. The attendees from EQMac.com, have posted a thread on their message board where people can post questions for them to ask the SOE team at the summit.

While Sony recently had announced it was ending further development on the Mac version of Everquest, just last week they made another request for problems with the Mac client, to maybe bring more resolution to players' issues in the game. Hopefully more information will be available on EQMac after the summit.

8:07 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story

GameGossip spotted a listing for World of Warcraft Collector's Edition at EB Games, which includes information regarding the special content of the game. Fans of Blizzard who are looking for some extras might be interested in looking for this version when the game is released later in the year.

Here's a quick rundown of what this edition includes

  • 200 page Art Book
  • Behind the Scenes DVD
  • Soundtrack w/exclusive Tracks
  • Cloth World Map
  • "Virtual Item"
The EB Games site lists the Collector's Edition at $80, though its August release date should be taken with a grain of salt. Blizzard is famous for only releasing a game "when it's done."
