Forum Q&A with Alida Creator Cos Russo 9:23 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
The GameBoomers Community has recently opened a developers Q&A forum section devoted to Alida, a graphic adventure title that puts players on an island in order to unravel the mystery behind a person's disappearance. The forum, just opened at the beginning of this month, is being moderated by Cos Russo, the creator of Alida, and gives players a chance to learn more about the inner workings of the game. "Nuts. No, I think insane is the right word. Why would you want to do it? A gigantic guitar in the middle of the ocean... it's insane!" These are the words spoken by Kivas from the early days of Alida. When I first conceived the idea of Alida, similar words were going through my head. Alida has been an incredible journey for me, coming up with the original story and creating all the elements for Alida to come to life. I hope GameBoomers will enjoy Alida! Alida has already seen release for the Mac in Europe, and is scheduled for U.S. release sometime this month. More information can be found in IMG's review.

GarageGames Interview 9:23 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
UGO has posted the results of an interview with Jay Moore, ever-present Evangelist for GarageGames. A company that started with the Torque Engine, GG has published several titles, and continues to expand their available technologies. While the main bulk of the interview focuses on the history and philosophy behind GG, other questions are raised, including new directions that are currently being explored: I think some of the ideas about integrating game community into the game and building new play spaces for games could be some interesting new ground. I think the foundational idea that the GG community is built on 'World Domination Through Collaboration," is a new avenue - working together in the spirit of OpenSource to build tools for professional quality commercial game development is a very big idea. Questions like these are usually best answered in hindsight once serious new ground has been broken, but right now there is interesting work going on in most of the key places that every dev. team has to innovate on - physics, AI, art pipeline, backend services. Also discussed in the interview are opinions about contributing programmers, various changes to the engine over the years, and plans for the future.

Myth II 1.5 Beta #2 Available 7:49 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
Following quickly on yesterday's news regarding a new beta version of Myth II 1.5, PlayMyth has announced the release of this new candidate. Players should note this version of the beta is not network-compatible with either v1.4 or the earlier 1.5 Beta #1. This second beta fixes a few outstanding bugs as well as adding a number of interface features and gameplay tweaks. Here are a few from the changelist: MacOSX users can now play Myth in a window, with the game itself either being rendered in a window or fullscreen (see Preferences in Myth). Depending on demand, this feature may come to Microsoft Windows in a future update.Under OS X, if Classic is running in an unstable state that would cause resolution switching problems with Myth later on ingame, Myth will now detect it before hand, and give a dialog box to the user explaining the error. Networked co-op games will now show all the objectives in the mission, not just the first one as was previously the case. Rendezvous now works for OS X (as an alternative to TCP/IP). Myth will now remember the last IP address used for joining a TCP/IP game. For the full changelist or to download the update, check out the links below.
