IMG Posts World of Warcraft Journal

IMG has posted Part 1 of a character journal from Blizzard Entertainment's upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), World of Warcraft. Written by Michael Phillips, the journal discusses life in the World of Warcraft beta from a Gnome Warlock's perspective.
Here's a glimpse:
Aside from casting spells and Curses, I can Summon powerful allies to my aid. Early in my studies, I learned to Summon an Imp. Every Warlock begins their summoning career by mastering the art of Imp Summoning, only because an Imp is the being that’s least capable of eviscerating even a neophyte Summoner. For the rest of this multi-part journal, hit the link below.

The Chronicles of Ny Interview
8:45 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
The Warcry News Network has posted an interview with ClownKeep, a young group of indie developers looking to bring old school RPGs to the gaming community. Their current project is The Chronicles of Ny, an RPG that they currently plan to release in an episodic format.
One of the features stressed by the developers involves that of well-rounded party members. Rather than have a bunch of flat characters, ClownKeep is working to develop members with unique personalities, traits, and goals in the hopes that players will view them as more than just tools to be used.
Ny is currently being developed using the Torque engine, and Mac, PC, and Linux versions are all being developed. When the interviewer asks about the viability of the Mac market, ClownKeep notes the success of the Mac user base in past Torque engine-using titles:
GarageGames has said that nearly 40-60 percent of their revenue comes from Mac and Linux users. This is simply something an indie cannot ignore. We feel supporting these communities will be a blessing in the long run. Also covered are the influences behind Ny's design, its backstory, and the number of episodes currently being planned.

Neveredit Making Progress
7:59 AM | Mike Apps | Comment on this story
The Mac RPG fans disappointed by the lack of editing tools for Neverwinter Nights may soon have reason to rejoice. As reported earlier at IMG, OpenKnights, a group of hard-working folks have been attempting to build a toolset for the game that works on any platform, Mac, Windows, or Linux.
The fruits of their labor, Neveredit, has continued to make swift progress, and the latest posts to the Neveredit Blog shows how close the software is to editing actual NWN maps:
I've made pretty good progress on an opengl map display in the last couple of days. There's a new tab with a map whenever you select an item that is somehow associated with an area's map. The map currently shows markers for placeables, doors and creatures. It supports most of the camera control keys NWN itself supports. You can move items it display, and selecting one will select the corresponding entry in the module tree, and vice versa.Though this OpenGL display doesn't show the actual models or textures of placeables, a more recent post shows that this feature is not far behind:
Well, I sometimes like to set myself a challenge. I had a bit of time this week, so I figured: how hard can opengl nwn model display really be? To check out the full Neveredit blog, which includes screenshots of these new features, follow the links provided below.
Here's an integrated model viewer for neveredit.
That means 3D tiles can't be far away!

X-Words, CrossCards Update, Bonus Pack
7:59 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Freeverse has updated both X-Words Deluxe and CrossCards to version 3.0.6. The update increases the number of computer opponents, fixes a sound bug in OS X, asks for confirmation when quitting from a network game, and includes the latest version of GameSmith.
Also recently made available is a free bonus pack for both games.
The bonus pack contains 27 opponents (many being released for the first time), 2 extra scenarios (one for each game), 10 word lists for X-Words, and 3 additional backgrounds. Clocking in at 13.4 MB, it's a great way to make your X-Words or CrossCards game even better. An additional note says that, while upgrading to 3.0.6 is not required to use the bonus pack, it is recommended for maximum compatibility.
Those interested in the bonus pack and/or the updates can find download links at Freeverse.
