IMG Reviews Northland
12:34 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a review of Northland. Developed by Funatics, published by Epic Interactive, and distributed in the U.S. by Freeverse, Northland is the third game in the Cultures series and the first to appear on the Mac.

Here's a clip from the review:

Though Northland is essentially a real time strategy/city building game, it’s not much like the competition. The closest comparison to another game series would be Sierra’s City Building Series (of which only Caesar 3 was published for the Mac). Most of the game play focuses on feeding, employing, and sheltering your townsfolk. Unlike any similar game, you get into much greater detail and finer control, such as telling them where to live, when to get married, when to change jobs, and when to have children.

TeamSpeak Mac Update
12:11 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

A few months ago we brought you news that TeamSpeak, the popular voice communication software for the PC will be making its way to the Mac. According to reports in January, Apple lent the TeamSpeak group Mac hardware in order to get the port done. Since then there's been little news on the Mac version, until today.

TeamSpeak yesterday announced the final release of TeamSpeak 2 for the PC and they they will be now shifting focus to TeamSpeak 3. Here's what the post on their website had to say:

Unless any major/critical bugs are found, this will be the last release for the TeamSpeak 2 series - we are now working with all our man power on TeamSpeak 3. Do not ask us when TeamSpeak 3 will be ready, we still have lots of work to do for it - it will be done when it's done. One thing that TeamSpeak 3 will be, is a complete rewrite in C++ - yes this means Mac support.
TeamSpeak has been gaining popularity in the online gaming world due to its low-bandwidth usage and design slant towards gamers. Let's hope the Mac version is here soon. For more information, please visit the TeamSpeak website.

Blizzard Celebrates Seven Years of '.net' Fansites
8:42 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Blizzard has made a recent nod at Battle.net to the "Unofficial.net" network of fansites devoted to various Blizzard titles. The network, which includes Diabloii.net, WorldOfWar.net, and Scraftghost.net, has been in existence for over seven years now and continues to rank high in popularity.

We’d like to thank the "Unofficial .net" network for supporting our games for the past seven years. Having originally started in 1997, the ".net" fan sites have become some of our most read Fan Sites, and we’d like to congratulate them on reaching their seventh year anniversary.
IMG also adds their congratulations to the network, and hopes to see their continued success.

Combat Mission Companion Scenarios
8:42 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Battlefront.com has recently made available a series of 12 new scenarios for Combat Mission: Afrika Korps. Created by various CM Community designers, the scenarios include titles such as A Series of Misfortunes, Confusion – A God of Battle, and Jerry, Olive Trees, and a Cemetery.

The scenarios have been released as part of a promotion for The CMAK Companion: The Battery Commander, his Batman, and a Cook, a book recently made available by Battlefront for those looking for a little more insight into the real world CMAK is based off of:

It is a fascinating collection of 150 accounts of small-unit action in the Mediterranean Theater. Covering all the territories found in the game ("Italian Africa", "Rommel's Africa", Crete, Sicily, Southern and Northern Italy) in chronological order, it is the essential background companion to Combat Mission: Afrika Korps and priceless as a scenario design tool.
Each of the scenarios included in the CMAK Companion Scenarios are based off of accounts included in the book. Those interested in downloading the scenarios can do so at Battlefront.
