Mac UT2004 Demo Patch Expected Soon
7:59 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
An update to Ryan Gordon's .plan file notes he is wrapping up a few Mac-specific fixes for the just-released Unreal Tournament 2004 demo and that a patch should be available in the very near future. According to Gordon, it "should be out tonight or tomorrow."
The update will address issues such as enabling the dedicated server from the GUI and fixing crashes when Apple's iSight camera is plugged in to the computer. Other changes like properly showing the servers' ping times and removing a duplicate config value should also be made available.
Gordon is quick to point out all of these fixes have already been rolled into the Mac retail release as well , which should be made available by MacSoft around the same time as the PC version is shipped. Stay tuned to IMG as more word on the demo patch becomes available.
In related news, ShackNews has a couple of newly released high-resolution shots of the retail game in action. Head over to give them a look.

Inside Mac Games has posted the 19th part in an ongoing conversation between old friends Glenda Adams, Mac gaming goddess and Director of PC and Mac development at Aspyr, and Tuncer Deniz, publisher and editor-in-chief of IMG.
Here an excerpt to whet your palate:
Tuncer: A few weeks ago you posted in the IMG forums about putting Mac games on DVD instead of CD's. You basically wanted some feedback. Based on that, has Aspyr made any decisions regarding DVDs?For the full chat, follow the link below.
IMG Feature: One on One with Glenda Adams
Glenda Yes we have made some decisions, and I think from the forum response people will be really happy with where we're going to go with the DVD/CD issue in the future. Right along the time we do some announcements for current games going into beta I think we'll start talking publicly about our future DVD plans.
MacPlay Patches No One Lives Forever 2
11:04 AM | Johan Hansιn | Comment on this story
MacPlay has released a minor patch for their comedy-style action spy game No One Lives Forever 2 - A Spy In H.A.R.M.'s Way. The patch addresses one single issue, though it is very welcome for the people who experienced it. The game no longer requires you to switch the refresh rate to 60Hz in order to play the game. Unfortunately the issue that causes problems with the dialogue playback is till being looked at.
From MacPlay's support page:
We have found this to be an issue with the latest update of QuickTime 6.4-6.5. Users with OS 10.3 cannot downgrade to 6.3 because QuickTime 6.4 is built into the new OS. This issue is of high importance and we are currently working with the developers and Apple to resolve this and will update our website as we make progress. You can find links to the patch and support page below. Installation is done by simply replacing the old items in the NOLF2 folder with the ones from the patch folder.

GameSpot Posts World of Warcraft Hands-on Look
8:49 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Blizzard fans looking for a little more information on the upcoming MMORPG World of Warcraft may want to check out a recent preview done by GameSpot. Besides providing voluminous details on the Quest aspect of WoW, which currently seems to be a huge part of the game, details on activities such as gathering and crafting are also discussed:
If you wish to take a break from fighting altogether, you can use World of Warcraft's trade skill system. This lets you either gather valuable resources, like rare herbs for potions, or it lets you create products, like armors and weapons. Gatherers will spend much of their time trying to locate specific resources; whether or not they can successfully recover them will depend on their skill levels. Crafters will be able to combine ingredients using a streamlined interface that will let them automatically begin production if they have enough ingredients.Unlike some other MMORPGs currently available, WoW's crafting system currently does not penalize players for crafting failures by destroying the raw materials being worked with.
Also discussed in the preview are some experiences with leveling up, the basic combat system, and the dungeon structure of WoW.
