8:26 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

MacPlay has recently released a new newsletter, with the top story being that it is now celebrating its 4th year as a Mac game publisher. To celebrate, MacPlay is offering a slew of games for a mere $4, including AvP: Gold Edition, NOLF, and both Fallout titles.

To thank all of you for your support, and to celebrate our birthday, we're offering the following games for $4.00 each. Four measly bucks! Where else can you get this much fun and excitement for a mere four dollars?
Also noted in the newsletter is the recent shipping of four titles, including Kasparov Chessmate, The Emperor's Mahjong, Hard Rock Casino, and Activision Anthology: Remix Edition.

Congratulations and Happy Birthday to MacPlay from the crew here at IMG. We are looking forward to many more quality Mac titles in the future.

The popular Apple games web site has been updated with a new feature on Shadowbane: The Rise of Chaos, the expansion pack recently released for the online role-playing game.

Here's a clip from the feature:

In the case of Ubi Soft’s Shadowbane, The Rise of Chaos expansion pack offers a variety of additions that expand the world of Aerynth and move its history along, including new zones, monsters, professions, disciplines, armor and weapons, as well as a new playable race. There are even new in-game features and a variety of graphical improvements designed to enhance your experience, as if a god added brushstrokes to the sky and suddenly granted you new abilities.

Opensource Glide Emulator for Classic Games?
8:26 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

A IMG forum user by the name of Abecedaria recently posted some information that fans of older Mac games may find interesting. Basically, it contains a link that points to a little project known as OpenGLide, which emulates a 3DFX-Voodoo GPU, translating Glide calls to OpenGL.

It works in both OS 9 and OSX Classic giving FAR better visual quality in these games compared to RAVE at the price of performance. However, if you have a fast enough CPU, it might be fine. I'd love to hear peoples comments.
The poster reports success with a GeForce 4 Ti, but troubles with the ATI 9600 in his PowerBook. Those interested in giving the emulator a try can find it at SourceForge.net.

Savage 2.0 PC Patch Out, Mac to Follow?
8:26 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story

S2Games recently released a massive 2.0 patch for the PC version of their FPS/strategy title Savage: the Battle for Newerth. The update is significant not only in that it fixes a large list of bugs, but also that it was what the developers were quoting as the holdup on being able to release the Mac client for the popular game.

Last week the company was quoted as saying, "we're all gearing up for the 2.0 patch release, we haven't had a chance to coordinate the distribution of the Mac build." Now we're hoping with this update out the door, we might hear more from S2Games on a timeline for the Mac version.

Other reasons to get excited about the 2.0 patch besides bug fixes are that it revamps the graphics and networking systems for better performance, as well as adds many new units and maps.

On a related note, S2Games' publisher iGames was rumored earlier this week to be in financial trouble. They released a statement yesterday from CEO Rich Bosch refuting the claims:

"Contrary to a number of recent reports, iGames Publishing, LLC is not closing its doors. We have reorganized some of our top people, and are looking closely at our various enterprises, but we are in no way closing for business. We’ve taken a step back to reallocate our resources, and unfortunately in the process of doing so, have had to eliminate some positions. However, iGames Publishing, LLC remains dedicated to bringing top quality games to market and in supporting our current games: Savage; the Battle for Newerth and Nosferatu; the Wrath of Malachi."
Stay tuned to IMG for the latest on Savage as it heads towards OS X.
