Feral Interactive has sent the word that Ghost Master is now shipping. A title that mixes elements of strategy and simulation, Ghost Master allows players to direct an army of ghosts to scare the pants off of people, with the ultimate goal being to bring the meaning of fear back to your little community.
Just in time for Halloween and despite the best efforts of the US Customs service (we salute you) Ghost Master our unique Scareware game is Shipping today. PC Gamer in the US have just reviewed it and given it a 90% rating. They sum it up as follows: "Dungeon Keeper meets the Sims in this spooky Gem" and that just about does it for us too.Those interested in checking out Ghost Master for themselves can find a demo at MacGameFiles, sized at a modest 131MB. Ghost Master is also available for purchase at IMG's online store.
In other Feral news, their official website mentions an upcoming Mac version of the soccer title CM 03/04, with an estimated release date of December. Feral expects to have more details and pre-order information on November 7th.

IMG Begins Age of Mythology Week

This week IMG will be featuring MacSoft's upcoming real-time strategy game, Age of Mythology. We kick this special week of with Part 1 of our extensive hands-on preview of the game.

Anyone who is familiar with Age of Empires will feel right at home with Age of Mythology, and indeed in terms of its interface it should quickly seem very familiar to players of other RTS games such as WarCraft, too. Age of Mythology has certain minor interface refinements over its predecessors in the series, but the clue to its most interesting difference is in its title: the wordMythology. Age of Empires and the other earlier games all featured a reasonable level of historical accuracy, and whilst that was commendable, maybe some players found that aspect of the games a bit dry. Many gamers enjoy an element of fantasy in their playing experience, and this is the major new ingredient that Age of Mythology adds to its already proven recipe.Be sure to check out the entire preview by following in the link below. Shadowbane: Rise of Chaos Preorder, Screens

Ubi Soft and Wolfpack Studios have put together a preorder page for their upcoming expansion pack to the Massively Multiplayer Online RPG Shadowbane, titled Rise of Chaos. The new page includes three new screenshots of the expansions, which is set to debut next month for Mac and PC at a price of $20. They also have the system requirements available now:

Carmack Talks Doom 3 Tech

In a new preview/interview posted on Computer and Video Games, they discuss the upcoming first-person shooter milestone from id Software, Doom 3, with lead programmer and visionary John Carmack. In the interview, he discusses where he thinks the industry is set to go in the future, as well as much of the technology behind the game's impressive engine (enough to warrant a short glossary of terms at the end of the article).
Carmack also talks about innovation in the FPS gameplay realm, and why he wants to keep things simple:

Doom 3 Preview/Interview with John Carmack
JC: We decided Doom 3's gameplay is not going to be some wild innovation - it's a first-person shooter. There are a lot of arguments that can be made about game design, and I prefer simplicity and elegance. There are big arguments that happen inside id over 'do we wanna have an additional control for something like this?', and I'm always the one saying we want the minimum number of everything, because I want it to be simple and fun to play. I think the GUI interaction in the game is really powerful as an interactive paradigm. It doesn't require additional controls; you're interacting with something people are familiar with. Allowing you to interact with complex displays is powerful, much more than adding three more keys to do something.In terms of the basic gameplay, the first-person shooter is a genre that will probably be around forever now, like flight sims and driving games. There are plenty of branches you can take within that, like pure realism, tournament play, comic action. And I think the push for people to innovate in gameplay - I'm not sure that I particularly agree with it. You don't go around constantly coming up with new basketball games. What we have the ability to do is improve the playground you're playing on in these fundamental ways, and it's a good thing. We've got some neat things where you can control some big machines and do some cool stuff, but it is still a 'running a person around, shooting at things in the world' game, and I didn't want to make it anything other than that. We have vehicle code in there that I know Splash Damage is playing with and making buggies and stuff fly around, but I'm most mistrustful of adding that sort of thing.

Diablo Map Hack Warning

Continuing with their zero-tolerance stance on cheaters, Blizzard recently sent out yet another warning to would-be offenders that the warnings will cease. The latest warning states that any Diablo II players found to be using 'Map Hacks' will no longer receive a warning for the offense and will simply be kicked off. Here's the full announcement:
