IMG Reviews Altec Lansing VS4121
1:19 PM | Johan Hansén | Comment on this story

IMG's Tim Morgan has reviewed the VS4121 speakers from Altec Lansing. These remarkable looking speakers feature a number of technologies to keep the size down but the sound quality up, giving them their special appearance.

From the review:

The VS4121 is certainly a unique speaker system. Although the two satellites appear to be flat-panel at first glance, they are certainly not. The design is unique: two micro-drivers face forward, mounted on a thin panel. The midrange driver is a cylinder behind the tweeters, and faces down into the desk. The idea, according to Altec Lansing, is that the down-firing midrange driver will disperse midrange frequencies into the room, which can often be muffled as distance from the speaker increases. Nestled in the side of the panel of the right speaker is a headphone jack, and on the front are a captivating blue power LED, a satisfyingly grabbable volume control, and smaller treble and bass controls with notches in their centers.

A Mac Tale in the Desert Still Possible?
9:51 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story

A recent forum thread at the messageboards of the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game (MMORPG) A Tale in the Desert seems to indicate this Windows/Linux title could still be on its way to the Mac in the coming months. A Tale in the Desert prides itself as a nonviolent game which focuses on building your character and your community. Like other MMORPG's, the game has a monthly fee, but with A Tale in the Desert, you can download the initial client for free.

IMG originally reported on the game during its launch last February, but at that point an OS X port was still being researched. It now seems they might have it in their plan to work on the port for the "2nd Telling" of the game, which would begin after the title's one-year anniversary, according to an IRC log captured in their forum:

Planning to do a Mac port though, probably for 2nd Telling.
The title's FAQ explains what the 2nd Telling means:
Q. The game finishes after a year? What happens after that?

A Tale in the Desert will run for roughly a year, at least that is the length of time the developers expect it to take for the players to complete all the goals. The game will end when a major monument of each of the seven disciplines of man is completed. Then after a short break the second 'telling' will start. The game will roughly be the same, but things like charcoal and seed growing will have different formula's.

For much more information on A Tale in the Desert, check out their website. Also stay tuned to IMG for any other details on the possibility of a Mac port.
