Late Friday Westlake Interactive, the company in charge of porting Spearhead, the expansion pack for the World War II first-person shooter, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, announced that the pack had gone gold. According to the post on Westlake's web site, the game is currently in duplication.

IMG Reviews Orbz 2.0
2:18 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

IMG has posted a review of Orbz 2.0, the second game powered by GarageGames' low-cost Torque 3D game engine.

Here's a clip from the review:

Set in a colourful, low-poly environment reminiscent of Nintendo's Mario franchise, gameplay consists of shooting bright electric balls around fourteen playing courses, knocking off targets in a race against time, AI-controlled players called Botz, or up to nine other human players, either competing over the internet or a local area network.

Beginning on a large blue floating pad, players use a point-and-power style aiming system to knock their balls (or Orbz) around the course, similar to the aiming set-ups used in most computer golf or pool games. Numerous star-shaped targets litter the course and can either be found in easy-to reach, wide open spaces, or crammed in hard-to-get corners of the miscellaneous architectural details that define the style of the course. The positioning of the targets indicate their points value - yellow and orange targets being the easier to reach and the lowest scoring targets, while the more valuable red and purple stars require greater skill and strategy to find.

ThinkTanks Released, Demo Available
6:00 AM | Johan Hansén | Comment on this story

GarageGames has released the tank combat game ThinkTanks by BraveTree Productions for Mac OS X. The title features gameplay powered by GarageGames' Torque engine, and includes both solo and online game modes. The game will be available for PC and Linux platforms as well, but at the moment only the Macintosh version is available.

Here's more about the game:

Drive one of three tanks: light, medium and heavy. The light tank is quick, but with weaker armor. The heavy tank is an armored beast with a honkin´ weapon, and the medium tank is the best of both worlds. All the tanks can use weapon powerups, which give extra-special shots, and are just the thing for getting out of tight spots and racking up points. In addition to super-speed and area-effect projectiles, there are bounce back projectiles that bounce and skitter across the terrain and explode with deadly effect when they are near another tank.
There is a demo of ThinkTanks available for download at Macgamefiles.com. IMG Pro subscribers can also download their copy of the demo from the Hot Downloads section.

The full game is available to purchase from GarageGames' site for $19.95. The full game includes all 3 tank types, more levels and uninterrupted online play. If you want more information about game, head over to the official ThinkTanks site.

Tribes: Vengeance to Use Unreal Engine
6:00 AM | Scott Turner | Comment on this story

At a recent press event, Sierra unveiled the next installment of their long running game series, Tribes. The newest game, according to Sierra, will be developed by Irrational Games and will be titled Tribes: Vengeance.

Both companies are already hyping the title and boast that the game will not only feature Tribes' famous team and FFA multiplayer aspect, but a singleplayer experience that will be "unlike anything anyone has ever seen in a videogame."

Here's a clip of the press release:

In Tribes: Vengeance’s single-player campaign, gamers become immersed in a roiling galactic thriller. Throughout the game, the player catches glimpses of other, interrelated stories that are unfolding behind-the-scenes. In addition, gamers are given the opportunity to experience the full scope of the single-player story through multiple viewpoints and characters. Powered by an enhanced version of the Unreal Engine, the world is brought to life with characters that have facial expressions and fully-realized personalities, vehicles that kick up dust as they pass by, and weapons that display spectacular effects.
The important part out of all that for Mac gamers is that the game will be opting for a modified Unreal engine. Though Sierra notes the game is curently planned "only for PCs," using the engine obviously increases the chances of a Mac port. It should also be noted that Irrational Games is responsible Freedom Force, another title currently available for the Mac.

Stay tuned to IMG for any new information on seeing the possibility of Tribes: Vengeance coming to the platform.
