RHEM Announced for the Mac

Got Game Entertainment has recently announced its intentions to publish RHEM for the Mac. Developed by Kut Mueller, RHEM is a graphics-based puzzle game, similar to the Myst series, that places players in a strange land, sending them off on an adventure sparked by a mysterious letter.
Featuring non-linear gameplay, non-violent story, and mind-bending puzzles, the player's adventure begins when a commandeered rail car arrives in the land of RHEM. The rail car roams the land of RHEM, allowing the player to discover the mysteries of this place little by little. The player soon learns that the only hope of escaping RHEM lies in the contents of a letter, consisting of four hidden fragments which must not only be found, but also put together.Got Games Entertainment has been publishing PC titles for 15 years. RHEM appears to be their first foray into the Mac market.

One on One With Glenda Adams (Part 14)
Glenda: I haven't been able to put one in a machine here, but I did watch the demos at Macworld. I'm very impressed with the 9700 Pro. It is just amazing the flexibility and speed, and from what I've heard even gives the GeForce FX quite a run for it's money. I'd really like to see the new GeForce cards in action. It's great to have a couple major choices for the Mac, I think the competition is good for gamers.
Apple Bumps iMac to 1 GHz, Lowers Prices

Apple today announced faster, cheaper flat panel iMacs, while cutting the number of models in half. The new 17" widescreen iMac now features a 1 gigahertz G4 processor, 133 MHz system bus, 256 MB of DDR memory, and NVIDIA's GeForce4 MX graphics card with 64 MB of DDR memory. The 1 GHz iMac also has a 80 GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive, faster SuperDrive, and internal BlueTooth and AirPort Extreme support. At $1799, the new model is $200 less expensive than it was yesterday.
The entry level 15" iMac, priced at $1299, is based on the older system architecture, but received a 100 MHz speed bump to 800 MHz, a faster 32x combo drive, and a larger hard drive.
Both new models come with Apple's iLife and following Apple's operating system policy, will not boot in Mac OS 9.
Reckless Drivin' Updated

An update was recently released for the destructively fun shareware game, Reckless Drivin'. Reckless Drivin' is a 2D driving game, in which the player races to the end of the level, destroying as much as they can along the way. There are also many powerups to pick up along the way, including mines and missiles.

Reckless Drivin' is a new action game for the Mac written by Jonas Echterhoff. Its gameplay is similar to its predecessor, Burning Rubber, a Mac shareware game I released in 1996. In Burning Rubber one had to drive a car through 2-dimensional levels as fast as possible, leaving as much destruction as possible on the way. The latest patch to Reckless Drivin' just fixes a rare bug that occurred when players were being followed by cop cars, so everyone may not need it. Reckless Drivin' follows the same basic principle, however, it has been completely rewritten from scratch, and it employs a new graphics engine featuring smooth, dynamically zoomed, scrolling 16-bit graphics. The physics simulation has been redesigned to realistically resemble skidding and tire tracks on different road surfaces.

Free C&C Clone for OS X

Fans of Westwood's classic real-time strategy game Command and Conquer may be interested in an open-source clone of the game that is being developed, entitled Free C&C. The project is working to recreate the Command and Conquer engine, yet still uses the original game data.
Here's a description of Free C&C:
FreeCNC will be a free implementation of the Command & Conquer Game Engine written in SDL. It will support original C&C graphics/audio similar to how FreeCraft supports original WarCraft graphics/audio.For those unfamiliar with Command and Conquer, It's a modern warfare RTS which features two different factions to choose from, along with a slew of different units to use.

Airburst Updated to v1.053

Airburst, the popular breakout/arcade multiplayer game from Strange Flavour, has recently been updated to version 1.053. The update fixes a bug that made v1.05 run slower than its predecessor, along with the following other fixes:

- Replaced intro movie with a version that's slightly more compatible with earlier version of Quicktime.
- Added Command-Q quit capability to GameSmith selection screen.
- Added PING command to Airburst Network to display PING times of connected players.
- Added UDP Ping to Airvurst Network (detects if other players can receive UDP packets).
Black & White 2 Interview

ComputerandVideoGames.com recently did an interview with Jonty Barnes of Black and White Studios about their upcoming game, Black and White 2. The article focuses on many of the features of the upcoming game, including improvements being made from the original game, along with improvements being made to the creature aspect of the game. Also covered are some of the major new aspects of Black and White 2, such as city building and army battles.

C&V:What are the main differences this time round?Although there are currently no announced plans to bring Black and White 2 to the Mac, given the success of the original, it is safe to say we could see the sequel on the Mac. To read the full interview, follow the link below.
Barnes: Of course, the improvements in technology really allow us to do much more in B&W2, but our major target in Black & White 2 is to make the game epic. We wanted to increase the scale and the 'feel' of the game by including majestic cities, vast armies and powerful storylines. No longer will people ask, 'Can you find my sheep?' but will instead pray for survival for war or for victory. We've been inspired by the single-mindedness and the faith you see in such films as Braveheart and the Lord Of The Rings series.
We also wanted to make the people in B&W2 more important to the player. Instead of popping in and out of the adventure, many will be loyal and constant, and will change as the tale unfolds. These people will raise armies, pray, live for you and even die for you. They'll have their own stories and plots, and these will as important to the player as he or she wants them to be. Of course, being a Black & White game, B&W2 always gives the player freedom and control over events, so if that means the player wants to execute all those humans closest to him or her, so be it!
C&V:How have you enhanced the creature/pet aspect of the game?
Barnes: The villagers are much more advanced and lead more significant, varied lives, which actually gives the Creature a greater purpose. So of course he's the ultimate unit in battle, but he has a renewed, vital role as the ultimate defender and nurturer of your people.
As well as improving the way you teach the Creature, we've boosted the Creature's abilities and intelligence. You can hand over the control of whole armies to the Creature, allowing him to command your troops in battle. He will form his own tactics based on his experiences.
We see some interesting side-effects of this AI. When we first took a Creature into battle, he had no concept of war and kept on healing anyone who got hurt, even those who were shooting arrows into him!
The player's Creature can also defend and build up great cities. His skills at town management and analysis of the surrounding situation make him a much more valuable member of a town. Of course, that's assuming you haven't taught him to be too evil.
