RtCW 1.32 Patch Released
6:00 AM | Lucian Fong | Comment on this story

Axis and Allies rejoice! As they promised in their May Newsletter, Aspyr has released the highly anticipated 1.32 patch for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The most notable changes are the PunkBuster anti-cheating software, several new multiplayer maps, improved support for ATI's TruForm technology, and many multiplayer fixes and optimizations. Mac users will now be able to see many more servers in the in-game browser, thanks to the network compatibility with PC users. A complete list of changes can be found in your RtCW directory after you install the patch.

The patch is approximately 17 MB. If you've had trouble download the file, be sure to head over to Macgamefiles.com as we've added our own mirrors for the file.

Update: We've been informed by ATI that TruFrom does not yet work in this version of RtCW.

Operation Na Pali UT Expansion Released
11:42 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

A group of talented map makers have released a massive single-player mod for Unreal Tournament entitled Operation Na Pali. Described as a cross between Unreal (it features some of the baddies found in Unreal) and Unreal Tournament, the mod has been in development for over two years and features over 30 custom-made single player maps.

Here's more on the back story behind Operation Na Pali:

You are a crew member of Vortex Rikers2, which will get a signal from the planet (Na Pali). The message came from 3 survivors of the old Vortex Rikers, the prisoner ship that crashed on the planet some months ago. Now you will be let down on the planet to rescue these 3 survivors. Unfortunately you were sniped down by a Skaarj right after you landed.

Your mission: Rescue your own a**. You are in a Skaarj prison, they destroyed all your equipment. You'll have to try to get out of the prison and find the old Vortex Rikers. If you are lucky its computers are still working and you can send a message to your mothership, so they can come rescue you....

Operation Na Pali weighs in at about 155 MB and is available for download from the Team Vortex web site. The mod will also be available on the next MacGames CD, scheduled to go into duplication Friday.

Elite Force 2 Look
6:00 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story

A new preview of Elite Force 2, the sequel to Raven's popular Star Trek Voyager game, has been posted recently at ActionTrip. While no longer in the hands of Raven, EF2 has been given to the very capable Ritual Entertainment, recognized for their work on titles like F.A.K.K.2, SiN, and others.

Elite Force 2 looks to both continue the original's well-scripted play and sense of style, as well as improve upon some aspects of the gameplay. According to the preview, the game will also be much longer than the original (just about the only gripe many players had with it). The Quake 3 engine is again being used, so gamers will have a good idea of how the game will look. Here's a clip:

Ritual promised to create a visually impressive environment with the use of their UBER Toolset (utilized for titles such as Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, James Bond: Agent Under Fire, Alice, Heavy Metal: Fakk2 and SiN). This modified Q3 engine allowed the programmers and designers to create some pretty vast indoor and outdoor levels - players will go through desert-like surroundings, icy environments, swamps, and many others. The game's engine gave the developers the possibility to create seamless levels. This basically means that players can get aboard the Enterprise, go across its deck while the ship it goes into warp, and then exit in a totally new and unexplored world. Pretty cool. Also, the game has highly detailed in-game models, as well as realistic physics - it was recently uncovered that one whole level will be taking place in a zero gravity zone. And, as you can see on the screens provided, there are some mighty spicy visual effects caused by various Star Trek weapons.
While no Mac version of Elite Force 2 has yet been announced, we're hopeful that once the game gets closer to completion something might be revealed. Stay tuned to IMG for the latest on the title.
