As is reported on the news page, Q3 is being Cocoaed. But NOT by id, it's the Omni Group doing it. And that's an almost total re-write.
Carbonizing the UT Engine will work fine for UT, but all the other UT based games would need re-coding as well. Along with all Q3 based games. Remember that when someone uses the engine, it's bound into their app. So even though the basic engine has been carbonized, the third party still needs to incorporate not only the engine code, but their added code as well. Let's not forget that there have been a lot of mods to the engines in third party apps that are "based on." |

IMG keeps saying Quake will be Carbonized. This is news to me, I always read that Carmack wanted to port it to Cocoa. Carbon is just a cleaned-up version of the Mac API that Carmack is no fan of. Cocoa is the more "pure" and advanced form of programming and I think this what id plans to use for Quake. I'd like to see IMG confirm either way. |

Hey Macsoft!
The day you release a carbon update for Unreal Tournament is the day you'll get my credit card number and order. Let's get Westlake working on this ASAP.
