How long has this been out in the PC world again? I know its been awhile. Why can't we get excited about newer games. I want to see this Painkiller game on the mac or Halflife 2 or god forbid Doom 3. Come on, dont we deserve the new stuff too?

Extremely Wary & Hesitant
SticKboy April 07 - 2:41 AM

"Remember AVP2? As soon as you entered a certain corridor the whole game quit? Thank God they released an update on that one!)"

Remember Heretic II? Same problem, still no update, almost two years since it's release. And it's not like AvP2 is totally bug free now. I just don't like the way MacPlay handles their after-sales support (when they have any), and the selective nature of the games they deign to patch. I hope Tron 2.0 is 100% bug-free when it's released, 'cos if it ain't, it'll prolly stay buggy for good. Tuncer wrote in his state of the game article not to support companies that don't patch their products (in that time MacSoft, Aspyr and Feral have all released updates and patches), and I for one will take his words to heart. MacPlay, IMHO, epitomises the "fire & forget" school of game publishing.

cactusjoe April 06 - 9:09 PM

"Aspyr also had a few games that went belly-up when QT 6.4 was released... it took them 48 HOURS, not 48 months, HOURS to patch them."

MacPlay has already taken 48 months to patch NOLF2?? That's what you're implying in your rant. Rather than venting here, perhaps write a POLITE email to MacPaly and tell them you won't be buying Tron 2.0 and the reasons why. Trashing MacPlay here won't do a thing and won't get NOLF2 patched.

MCP April 06 - 9:01 PM

"Everyone is confused about why there are problems with Quicktime 6.4 and higher. MacPlay can't do much until the incompatability problem is fixed."

Seems to me like you're the only confused one here!

Aspyr also had a few games that went belly-up when QT 6.4 was released... it took them 48 HOURS, not 48 months, HOURS to patch them.

I sent 3 emails to Macplay. 1st one was answered saying they were working on it (that was back when the game came out... October?). Second email, around Christmas. Same question 'Any updates yet?" Never answered. Third email sent in February. Same question "Any ETA on a patch for Panther and NOLF2? Thanks". Never replied.

BUSY??? Busy doing what?! The only company that releases less title than them in Graphsim (and at least Red Faction never had as many bugs as their games... Remember AVP2? As soon as you entered a certain corridor the whole game quit? Thank God they released an update on that one!)

MacPlay could be announcing Call of Duty and I still wouldn't buy it. The NOLF2 fiasco is absolutely unacceptable. 6 months and waiting. I can't think of any game from Aspyr or MacSoft that was released with such a major flaw and wasn't patched within a month.

psycho_weirdo April 06 - 5:59 PM

(1) I'm glad the game is coming out for Macs. We need more cool games!

(2) Omni Group did the port but has nothing to do with the patching, which is unfortunate.

(3) I have sent politely worded e-mails to MacPlay about NOLF2 and always received a response. They are busy and it sometimes took a few days to get an answer. Everyone is confused about why there are problems with Quicktime 6.4 and higher. MacPlay can't do much until the incompatability problem is fixed.

Um...
The Cow April 06 - 5:45 PM

So is anyone happy that this game is coming to the Mac, or what? I know I am.

Possibly not...
Nookster April 06 - 4:46 PM

Plenty of people do have a justifiable problem with MacPlay, however. Which is the point, I guess.

cactusjoe April 06 - 3:30 PM

So anyone who has something good to say about MacPlay is on their payroll?

/// April 06 - 1:57 PM

Didn't Omni Group do NOLF 2 for MacPllay. They droped out of the gaming scene soon after compleation. That might be why its taking so long for a fix.

MCP April 06 - 1:46 PM

psycho_weirdo, get off the Macplay payroll. These guys suck bug time. They are responsible for the product they publish. It took Aspyr 48hrs to patch all the games that needed patching after QT 6.4 came out.

Moreover, Macplay,s ports are always ULTRA buggy and sluggish. Their support is also lacking. They never answered my last 2 emails about NOLF2 since, as the other person below, I bought the game along with Panther and since then have not been able to play it.

Screenshots
Tuncer (IMG) April 06 - 1:42 PM

That's how they came, dude.

better screenshots...
WSTE_M April 06 - 12:28 PM

IMG, Do you think you could stop overcompressing and scaling screenshots ?
I know file size is a always a problem, but its not like you force anyone to click on the picture links...

psycho_weirdo April 06 - 12:16 PM

Quit picking on MacPlay. They are the publishers, not the ones who wrote the game. If it doesn't work with QuickTime, it's not their fault. Blame Apple for taking so long to find out why QT 6.4 and higher causes problems.

Dang
Mozart April 06 - 12:02 PM

I wish MacPlay hadn't gotten the rights to publish this game. Based on my experience with some of their recent titles, NOLF 2 in particular, I have to say that I am not impressed with their ports or their support for the game after it ships.

I happen to own a mutliple-monitor setup, which is helpful for work. When I play a MacSoft or Aspyr-published games, the game plays on the main screen and the others simply go black. With virtually every MacPlay game for OS X I own, I have to shut down the computer, unplug my extra two monitors, and start up again just to got the game to function correctly.

Mutliple-monitor woes are nothing compared to NOLF 2. The game won't run with QT 6.4 or 6.5, and therefore won't run with Panther. QT 6.4 came out a couple weeks after NOLF 2 shipped....LAST OCTOBER! And there is no fix in sight. I e-mailed MacPlay about the situation in January and was told it was highly important to them that the problem be fixed. I guess it's not important enough to fix within 6 months.

I suppose I'll give TRON 2.0 a try since it requires QT 6.4 and will most likely run under Panther. But I'm just not happy that MacPlay is doing the port.

mBot April 06 - 11:46 AM

Woohoo! It's requirements are likely to go something like this:

QUICKTIME 6.3
OS X.2 or LOWER

Can't wait. I will play it on my xbox when it comes out. Sorry MacPlay, I am through with you.

Yay!
RareWare April 06 - 11:41 AM

This game will be great! I hope it'll have cross platform multiplayer and all the bugs will get fixed though...

yup!
me April 06 - 11:31 AM

"We don't post unannounced products on IMG as we respect the wishes of publishers not to mention them until they are officially announced."

and I don't blame you, at least we don't get vaporware announcement!

Announced products
Tuncer (IMG) April 06 - 11:29 AM

We don't post unannounced products on IMG as we respect the wishes of publishers not to mention them until they are officially announced.

MCP April 06 - 11:16 AM

ludomac.com had this game on their May release list for a while. They also have Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

a2daj April 06 - 10:53 AM

Another Lithtech engine game... uh oh. Looking forward to the game but the engine... games based on that engine just haven't ported very well.

woa
me April 06 - 10:44 AM

Even if I know this baby requires a very good machine to play (on the PC side at least) I don't care, everyone I know who played this game drooled over it. It might actually give me a good reason to start piling cash for the future dual 3-4GHz G5 dream machine :)

miam miam

meh likes MacPlay
keep up the good work guys!

KingSpeck April 06 - 10:44 AM

there was a brief article about it:

Narles April 06 - 10:41 AM

We heard about this one at Macworld I think.

worst kept secret?
Mike April 06 - 10:29 AM

Worst kept secret? I had no idea this was coming to the Mac and I visit IMG daily. Probably need to get past the home page and into the forums more often.
