Another argument for hybrid releases, guys.

Pay extra? We won't be forced to pay extra for the UT2k4 tools, although I'd gladly do so.

Tools for the current engine are NOT expected that I can tell.

And the special edition with the headset is a limited-quantity thing anyway. Most PC users won't get that either.

I don't expect every single special promo to apply to Mac too, or vice versa.

That is why I have a macally iVoiceII with a standard microphone.

I guess we should just be happy that we will be forced to pay extra later for the same tools that the PC folks get for free right in the box, right now. And they get a free headset while we have to scream into our little "black dot."

Mac users always get the short end on these releases.

BTW, the second DVD on the PC special edition is just tutorials for the developer tools, which are Windows-only. (Although someone at Epic said that Mac mapping tools are planned for a future Unreal engine someday.) So no great loss. But it's cool that those tutorials will be in peoples' hands to make more maps and mods for us :)

A free headset would be cool... but so is using my Mac's built-in mic and not having some extra doohicky to deal with.

So I'm happy with the convenience of the DVD, and don't care about the special edition.

There are three PC versions. 6CD, 1DVD and 2 DVD (I think these are the numbers of discs, but I can be wrong) special edition with headset and metal box. The Mac version will be the second option. The basic version, on a DVD to save us a ton of CDs.

Does anyone know if the Mac version contains all the special extras that the PC DVD version contains: Logitec microphone headset plus a second DVD containing over two hours of expert video tutorials, and it all comes packed in a silver metal box?

I hope that on my Dual 1 GHz G4 with Radeon 9800 PRO it runs better. It runs like crap! I can't get more than 30 FPS if I set the highest OR lowest setting!!! :(

The demo uses both processors though! Takes one out for the sound and then uses the other one for the actuall game! ;)

I ordered my copy. The demo runs pretty darn well on my dual G4/8500 even though I split the video of the card (thus only run with 32mb of VRAM per screen).

That said, I really wish more games would make better use of both processors. ID did a great job with Quake 3 on DP machines, so we all know it can be done...

I read the news as the game has started shipping to retailers, they would have and start shipping their copies Wed. (Amazon, IMG< and the like)

PS, I'll help spread the word for the few that haven't heard... on single-CPU systems, the retail version runs about 2x as fast as the demo, due to a bug that was fixed :) (A new demo is expected.)

Do I need the UPC from the UT2k3 box or something? I threw that sucker away... does it help if I'm a registered UT2k3 purchaser and send in the UT2k4 UPC?

I'd ask MacSoft directly- and probably will- but I figured an official answer here would help a lot more people and save MacSoft some time answering calls and emails.
