I'm very excited about 10.3 coming out in a few weeks. I can see that the naming scheme is lost on some people. I don't get the whole "point release" statements. If Apple had called this Mac OS XII you'd be hyping it as the second coming. It's a good time to be a student!! |

Hey... can we get to the point here, guys? This ain't MacMinute, it's supposed to be a gaming site! So how does this upgrade effect Mac GAMING? In what ways will Panther enhance our gaming experience and are there any incompatibilities we could see coming in the future? |

it's not a point release people. A point release is 10.2.1, 10.2.3, 10.2.6, 10.2.8 ...
Mac OS X 10.3 is the third major revision of the operating system and is, therefore, a major update.
Now, that Apple is doing significant changes to the operating system every year is both exciting and costly, but I'm glad that they are =)
(In my opinion: the reason that they gave Mac OS X 10.1 away as a free upgrade is that 10.0 was actually version zero of the OS and they knew that they had to make good.)
The old way of numbering the system is done and gone. Phil Schiller mentioned in a keynote that Mac OS X should live another 15 years or so. By the time it needs to be replaced, it'll be up to Mac OS 10 "Elephant" v10.15.5 or so. |
| Looking forward to it! |

Calling these *major* updates to Mac OS X "point releases" is ridiculous nonsense. Just because the version numbering scheme actually makes sense and isn't decided by the marketing department doesn't make this a "point release". Make no mistake -- this is another *huge* update to what has already (by way of these "point releases") become the best desktop OS I've ever had the pleasure of using, hands down.
I've been more and more excited about each new major release of OS X, and Panther's no exception. It's going to rock! |

As someone that has seen it in action, and also DOES NOT WORK FOR APPLE, I can honestly say it is faster in every respect. Safari screams now! The Finder improvements while not Earthshattering are very cool and I look forward to using them at home asap. |

These "point releases" usually have more new features than a "new version" of Windows.
Looking forward to it. |

would you be happy? Just because it's a "point release" doesn't mean that it didn't cost them millions of dollars to make. You need to look at the new features and see if it's worth paying for. |

I'm still not happy about paying for a point release, but I guess they need to make some money :) |
