MX900 on the Mac
Anthony Caruana June 15 - 2:07 AM

I'm using an MX900 on my iBook G4. I've paired it with the Dlink DBT-120 dongle and it works pretty well. I'm a little bummed that I can'y use all the buttons but most work as designed. Only the task switcher and forward/back browser buttons don't work.

I use the base station on my desktop PC.

Most of my oberservations are at my site; www.thepdaguy.com

Bluetooth mouse

My powerbook G4 with panther has bluetooth built-in. Do I have to buy another bluetooth hub for the mx900? Or do I just use my built-in BT and keep the hub just a s a charger?

MX900 and OS X
anonymous November 17 - 9:45 PM

I heard that this MX900 works out of the box with the Mac bluetooth but the extra buttons don't work. However, Exposé in Panther has been rumored to correct some of this. Do a net search.

I'd recommend until Logitech has specific Mac OS X support with the MX900. Why? Because the traditional workaround (USB Overdrive) may not recognize (probably doesn't) Bluetooth devices.

Having been burned with poor reception on early coordless mice, not feeling cord mice so bad (since I am chained to a notebook), disliking the ungainly size of the MX500+ series and the lack of two-handed design... I'm sticking with the MX310.

NOT Supported
Graham October 04 - 12:28 AM

The 'sort by platform' listing does it exactly that - it *SORTS* by platform... it does NOT remove the devices that aren't compatible with the platform - it just lists the ones that are first.

The MX900 is therefore still on the list - in amongst a load of 'PS/2' PC only mice...

Just got MX700
Craig Best September 30 - 4:02 PM

just my luck, I wait for ever and get the mx700 a month ago, then they release a bluetooth version. Can anyone tell me the big advantage of bluetooth over RF?

compatibility
Brian September 22 - 10:51 AM

ah, on thursday I think it was, it wasn't listed in the mac section.

I wasn't really that concerned about the device itself, so much as the USB connector that has bluetooth as a part of it (and the recharger module for the mouse), I wasn't sure if that would require a custom driver on the mac.
Or would you use the built-in bluetooth (or D-Link USB module) to actually communicate, and leave the "base station" not connected?

Supported
Will September 21 - 4:43 AM

If you go to the site and sort their products by platform>>mac, the MX900 shows up in the list.

Mac OS X Support
Lucian September 20 - 1:06 PM

Mac OS X already supports Bluetooth Keyboard and mice. Just open up the Bluetooth Setup Assistant and see for yourself.

Mac Compatability
Jonathan White September 20 - 7:04 AM

It could be that Mac OS X itself doesn't support BT mice and keyboards yet. The Apple BT set come with extra software to support them. Unless you buy that kit (as far as I can see) you can't get the Mac to work with BT mice/keyboards and no one is going to spend another $180 just to get the software. I understand 10.3 will have the capability built in. So they're probably waiting for 10.3 to get to retail before announcing compatability, rather than having to write their own drivers.

Mac-compatibility
Lucian September 19 - 12:02 PM

If they conform to Bluetooth standards, it should work just fine on your Mac, but the keys may not be customizable.

Not released yet...
Vinay September 19 - 11:52 AM

From the looks of it, they're not shipping it yet. I mean sure, they should have tested mac compatibility before announcing it, but they may yet do it before it's shipped...

That said, if it _IS_ compatible with the Mac, I may trade in my MX500 for the this mouse. I've been wanting a wireless mouse, but didn't think the RF one was the right route, especially when I also want a Bluetooth Adaptor. I suppose I could have bought a separate one, but .. well anyways...I hope it's compatible.

Bluetooth & Macs
paulc September 19 - 11:07 AM

Here's the line from their press release:

"Both the Logitech Cordless Desktop MX for Bluetooth and the MX900 Bluetooth mouse are compatible with the Windows® 2000 and Windows® XP operating systems."

Note no mention of Mac OS. I'm sure their response would be "oh, we're still testing that." They SHOULD have done this already so on announcement, all system they intend to cover are mentioned as covered.

Nice dig, Logitech!

Mac Compatibility?
Brian September 19 - 10:50 AM

I noticed that Logitech specifically mentions Mac compatibility on their regular rf wireless mice & keyboards... These new bluetooth devices have no mention of Mac compatibility.

Has anyone heard otherwise?
