Pick two? Ok, I pick "have it done fast" and "made well", now gimme Doom 3 already.

The demo they showed at E3 was a great engine, but since this is primarily a single player game, it needs a plot. Maping, scripting, good AI, and a plot take time, They should also be working closely with Raven for Quake 4 as well. I work in the gaming industry, and stuf does take time to be done right. Like to old saying goes, "You can have it done fast, cost less, or made well. Pick two."

More than likely the delay of Doom 3 is due to the unexpected showing of Half-Life 2 at E3. I remember at last years E3, Doom 3 is all everyone could talk about. Now, this year, with Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 wowing the crowds with there amazing single player gameplay and graphics, I bet id desided to delay it to make it on par with the other hot FPS games that where shown. Heck, Doom 3 was playable, stable and in fine form at last years E3, so the delay can only be to improve it to hopefully beet out the competition. With other hot titles like UT2003 stealing away many of id's devoted FPS multiplayer fans, they really need to step things up a notch with Doom 3 to keep as many of their hardcore fans in love with id's offerings. Anyways, that is just my two cents.

5 months? July 24 - 9:54 AM

you would think in 5 months this game would be ready for release? they have been showing it for 2 yrs, going to have multiplayer going at quake con, but doom3 still isnt shipping until next year? what the ----? Maybe they know Halo is almost here for mac/pc ?
