Irony and delusion
Annoyed August 13 - 1:26 PM

Let me get this straight: Connectix releases a piece of software who's only real justification is piracy of Playstation games, and then complains when that software is also pirated? Who's kidding themselves here?

Ah, you say, "but people are supposed to buy VGS, then buy Playstation CDs to play it with!". This ignores the fact that a Playstation console is a loss leader - it's positively cheap, and the expensive part *is* the game you play in it. No one's seriously going to buy VGS to play real CD games when they could spend a few more bucks for a better experience on a real Playstation. The only possible candidates are those who already have a lot of bought or copied PS CDs, and why wouldn't they just play them on their PS? Consoles don't suffer the same kind of gradual obsolescence that computers (and software) do; they keep doing whatever they originally did, practically forever. If anyone's "pirated" VGS, you can be damn sure they never, ever would have smacked down money for it. You just have to accept that the interested-in-playing-a-copy market != the intested-in-spending-hard-earned-dough market. Deal with it.

One might think through the ramifications and justifications of paying for a software licence before trying to commercially release something like this in future. There may well be a business model that can work, but this particular whining complaint smacks of a release made in blind, almost stupid faith. And I'm sorry to have to say that, but there it is.
