The mac mini is the new ipod/imac, everyone will have one and no one will be able to use this game. Lucas arts has made too many non compatible versions. No xbox leaderboard, PC buggy and erratic mods, no 1.2 update for all platforms etc. And there certainly won't be any mac->pc gaming over gamespy! So buy the game when it is first relased and enjoy the two weeks that there are other players online - after that get used to playing with yourself....ha |

Yea, don't worry. I have Jedi Academy on my Macs, and I play with lots ppl with PCs. If any gmae comes out for Mac and Windows, you can play with ppl of the other computer, although Macs kick arse (Just keeping the comments clean, hehe). |

"Wait, So I have an eMac, iMac, and G5. The iMac is a G4 iMac, not G5, so, Battlefront wont work on the eMac or iMac?"
The preliminary system requirements said "CPU Processor: PowerPC G4/G5 or later" so for now it should be able to play for now. Also the mac will need 64 MB vram in their graphic card. I know that all 17' G4 1GHz iMacs came with 64 MB vram cards, unsure of models before that. |

"hows the SP in comparison? and how does this affect the overall game/replay value?"
It was made solely with multi-player in mind and from what I heard the SP is purely for some easily target practice. Tis slightly worring wondering whether it will be cross platform or mac2mac for mp. I wonder if Mac will get the mod tools...*stares at the flying pig* |

this game is ok the AI is really lacking. atleast on the xbox version. this game needs atleast 64mb vram and it won't get any lower nor will it for games in the future we should be so blessed that there are games with such crappy graphic that can run on machines like mine with 32mb vram. |

You couldn't run this on a cheap Dell or HP with "integrated graphics," i.e. no video card at all, so why expect it would run on a Mac mini? And as someone has pointed out, iMac has had a 64 MB vid card for a while. |

cool, another sw game for osx... its been out for PC quite a while now right? can i assume by the time its out for osx there are hardly any ppl online, making the MP part of it rather dull? hows the SP in comparison? and how does this affect the overall game/replay value?

There's no point complaining about Aspyr requiring a 64MB video card. That's like me complaining that it won't run on my 6MB VRAM G3.
Technology evolves quickly in gaming but Apple chooses to avoid that issue. When you can pick up a 128MB video card for the PC for under $100 why should developers cater for those who are stuck in the long distant past. Until developers start coding big games for the Mac from scratch, tailoring them to the low end video tech that Apple sticks in it's consumer machines, this is going to be a recurring theme with PC ports.
Things move on thankfully, otherwise VHS would still be the most popular retail movie format. |

I'll buy this game... sounds cool and i've heard alot about it. Don't expect Aspyr to drop video memory requirements because they'd have to crappize the texture quality to do so. I for one don't want crappy textures.
I am worried though... not only will there be a lack of players for this game, but what about ping times? where is aspyr going to put the server? some people will get smoked just cause they're 300ms behind everyone else! |

dude, it's not like they're coding this from scratch, it's a port. the pc version requires 64Mb vram, what the heck do you expect from Aspyr? |

This is a brilliant announcment and beginning for 2005 mac gaming in my opinion, but I only say that because I really wanted to play the game. :D Still it seems even then I won't be able to play it because of the 64MB Vram required. *rolls eyes* |

64MB of VRAM, so who's going to buying this PowerMac users only! A lot of iMAC and eMAC and fuure Mini players won't be alble to buy this because of 64MB Vram req. Not a good move of ASPYR if you ask me! |

If you can get 35-50 people in a multiplayer, it can get so cool. Another cool thing is that all the extras in the game like Ewoks, Tuskans and Gamorrean Guards can also kill you. Nothing like sniping a rock throwing Ewok. |

The only reason to get this game. Another cool thing about vehicles is that you can have multiple people ride inside and man the guns from all sides. |

Ghost Recon had cross-platform play, but no cross-platform browser, meaning it was effectively Mac-Mac only. Same problem, though. Ghost Recon was a lot of fun, but it simply got harder and harder to find folks to play against, and this was for a game that only needed a handful of players in a game. |

"Does SWBF on the PC use Gamespy for the internal browser? Could this be the game that Aspyr was tempted to cancel because of the Gamespy costs?"
Most likely, yes. Mac-to-Mac only. Which means, like Rainbow Six 3, rarely more than 10 people playing at the same time... |
| By which I mean the Gamespy folks |

My impression from reviews is that Battlefront is just like Battlefield 1942, in that the AI are dumb as dirt. Multiplayer is the game's raison d'etre. Cross-platform play is an absolute necessity for this title. |

If Aspyr can figure out and fix the random crashing problems from the PC side, then all will be well. People have been complaining a lot about these bugs. For some reason after a level is completed, the game will just stay on the current map and never change.
The other issue is the game will just stop functioning altogether and just send you back to the desktop.
Other than these 2 massive bugs from the PC side, the game is very cool. Been playing it since it came out for PC and it's worth it. |

This is really sah-weet news, but I can't wait for SWRC as well to be ported to the Mac.
SW: Republic Commando may be the game that really pushes Lucas Arts' game franchise to the next level.

GeForce 2 or better but requires 64 MB vram? Wasn't the only GeForce 2 card for Mac the MX with 32 MB? Entirely an intellectual question for me, personally, but it would be sort of cool if it would run on a Mini. |
