sounds like a cool guy - it's refreshing to hear people speak like people instead of corporate pr-driven types, to call merde s**t.

Deer Hunter
Calroth November 11 - 2:35 PM

Another game which perhaps highlights this "culture" thing is Deer Hunter. I can't see this selling well anywhere else in the world, but in the US/Canada, it was a smash hit. Postal 2 is like Deer Hunter with violence and lowbrow humor.

Hmm. I do know that The Sims 2 has been a pretty big hit in Europe, but then it's also been pretty big in the US.

American humor
Calroth November 11 - 2:33 PM

I think Postal 2 is made for Americans who appreciate "trailer-park trash" humor. It's a cultural thing. I can see how a lot of Europeans would be scratching their heads at it, for example.

Trying to think of a game which Europeans love but Americans look at and say, "What the hell?". Not a game, but the TV show "Big Brother" may be an example... the US version is heavily modified, if they used the original European concept, I can see a lot of Americans saying "What the hell?".

Disclaimer: I'm from Australia, we see both cultures (and a lot of Asian cultures too, we're a big melting pot).

they have a point
me November 11 - 12:13 PM

wait for a review then buy it saves you money. I need to stop buying with out looking at reviews. Driv3r really sucked and was a waste of money, I had bought other games in the past that also were a waste of money.
Go ahead and buy it and see for yourself i sure won't

Wiley Fox. November 11 - 11:57 AM

Then how about you go buy the game and let me know how it is?

The purpose of a review is so that we can get a general idea of whether a game is good or not. If the overwhelming majority of reviews say it sucks, then guess what? It most likely sucks.

Also, I've played the first one, which was considered a crappy game as well, and unless they've made leaps and bounds on the sequel (which all signs point to no), I'm not interested.

JJ November 11 - 11:36 AM

I can't believe how many people actually going off reviews with out giving the game a go & not just on the Mac side either but also on Windows side, don't judge till you've personally played it.

ΔFat Bastard Canada November 11 - 10:20 AM

Excellent interview. i;ve heard that it's hard getting information out of Gordon, so this interview takes the cake.

Aside from P2...
paulc November 11 - 8:58 AM

I thought it was a superb interview. A lot of times, all one gets is that which was written by a marketing person... Ryan's are most definitely not.

Wiley Fox. November 11 - 8:50 AM

I agree. A game is not a good game because it can shock you or really "make you think". A game is a good game because it is fun. And according to every review I've read, this is not a good game.

And I seriously doubt that Running With Scissors sat down at a table and agreed to add all of those "mature" aspects into the game because it can serve as a reflection to modern society. I can't imagine the selection process got much past the "wouldn't it be cool if..." point.

skully25 November 11 - 8:29 AM

at the risk of being yelled at again i'll say it anywho

i have nothing but respect for gordon's previous work, but he really lost me on postal 2
i'v seen 3 indepent game magazines here in belgium giving postal 2 the title of worst game of the year 2003

my 2 cents, there are way better games out there that deserve to be ported to mac then postal 2 (2 makes me think of the numbre of minutes you could have fun with this game)
