I cannot see it changing unless they choose Nvidia for a new Mac - 2012 I think was the last time they were OEM. It is AMD or Intel these days.

It is why I went back to AMD after a brief time with a GTX680 - you were relying on the web drivers for any fixes.

Kinda lame. I'm planning on getting the Mac Pro when it comes out this year so I guess I'm just sticking with High Sierra for now.
Maybe it really is all cocks in the end.

I can't tell if you're joking but I totally would if I knew his email. Literally just downgraded back to High Sierra last night because of it.
It is completely serious. His adress is Federighi@Apple.com and there have been a few examples of him giving a reply.

The funny part is that Nvidia has drivers ready to go, Apple just have to say okay for them and put them in an update, which they haven't done so far. I really wonder why that is.

I may as well give it a shot. Yeah it's really bizarre. Like I understand that none of their current computers have nvidia cards anymore but is it really that much of a pain to put these drivers in?

Edit: Sent it.

We totally didn't know anyone wanted Nvidia cards in their Macs, as we were too focused on not selling iPhones in China. We will take care of this now.

A good discussion on Reddit regarding lack of Nvidia GPUs in Macs.

TLDR; Apple doesn't want CUDA in fear of having to stay with Nvidia for the future.

That makes a lot of sense, I wouldn't want that for Apple either.

Yeah in that discussion they talk a lot about how the Nvidia drivers for Mac have always been bad. I guess I never noticed cause I've never done a ton of gaming on my laptop. It sounds like AMD stuff just works better for Apple.

Is the ARM a good thing or a bad thing?

Both. But likely mostly bad I would wager, unless they pull some crazy magic as they did with the A# chips.

Its a shame Apple doesn't embrace better Nvidia drivers, because the AMD hardware is just all around inferior. Thought Apple was all about 'the best stuff'... guess not anymore, being run and filled with millennials who only care about if their facebook loads quick enough.

Apple is run by millennials? Where are they? https://www.apple.com/leadership/
It's been rumoured that some high-level executive(s) is/are blocking nVidia drivers. I wouldn't be surprised if this decision wasn't based on anything rational. Those taking decisions are often bitter old coots that cannot stomach any lack of respect.

I love bitter old coots who are irrational.

Except the ones who somehow think AMD is better than sliced bread... which its not even that either.

AMD sucks too. Both companies refuse to push a driver out that uses nearest neighbor scaling, so playing 1080p on a 4K monitor is a blurry mess. I have to use a third party utility that uses Windows 10’s magnification to hack around it...

Ryzen is great though. I’d choose AMD over nVidia in a heartbeat if AMD had anything at all to offer at the high end.

"nearest neighbor scaling" ........ dont get me started with that blurry ass popsnizzle on my retina mac. How HARD would it be to pixel double SD images? NONE, seriously, apple had their head in their ass when introducing that nonsense... and now others are following suit with their high-density monitors and hardware/drivers.

I'd done countless tests, and a pixel doubled image looks 502327% better than the upscaled blur of crap retina does.

What was this topic about again? ... do we need another split...
