Hi everybody and Happy New Year,

anybody here knows if the above adapter chain will work esp.  on High Sierra with older FW-gear?

Thanks :)

Edit: using only the original Apple Adapters.

I can't vouch for every adapter there is, but my FireWire harddrive > Belkin Thunderbolt 2 dock > TB 2 to TB3 adapter chain works totally fine for me.

That looks awfully complicated and an ugly mess. Why not buy a new case for the hard drive equipped with USB?

Mindnoise didn't mention what Firewire equipment he wants to use. It might not be a hard drive.

And my example was just that: an example. I don't actually use the Firewire HD anymore (it's far too small to be useful for anything).

Hi everybody,

yes, some clarification is at hand.
1. I meant using only the original Apple Adapters.

2. For my purpose it's a Mytek 192 DSD DAC audio interface with a combined FW/Thunderbolt driver that is confimed to work with the TB2-FW adapter and recent macOS. So I am covered for now.

But the thing is, my possibly next Mac (mini) won't have TB2 anymore.

The Mytek has a ton of options FW, USB, AES, Optical. I will just go in from the Mac into the Mytek via Optical S/P DIF and I am never mastering beyond 96kHz or do any DSD soon. USB1 is Class Compliant. But USB2/FW need drivers.

Thanks, so we can say it 'basically' works (If the driver likes it is a different thing).
