1.18 patch log confirms OpenGL.
"They're everywhere!" -And now, time for some Legend of Zelda.

I wouldn't expect Metal for the free 1.18 when they are doing a remaster that presumably will take advantage of it. I think it is very, very good of them to deliver the originally expected goods for free no less at this point.

I'm not so sure.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the remaster that would necessitate a newer API, and for compatibility's sake alone, sticking with OpenGL makes more sense.

I cannot imagine the remaster needing Metal but considering that it is the new standard on macOS why wouldn't they? For compatibility there will be 1.18.

Looks like no Mac Beta today after all as the windows version announced today was evidently beta that needed testing. :sad:  Bliz posted the following update:

We're also working to get the Mac build ready. It needs to have some parallel changes with the PC client. Ultimately, not today, but our team has some registered Macheads so we'll get it there.

We are not in a position to know that considering the extent of announced changes. I can think of one good reason that might be considered given how long this new version will be played (until it needs another remaster) which is that OpenGL is essentially dead now and will eventually be deprecated. Forward thinking for this game in particular would favor adopting the most current standard for long term compatibility. Just because it is not a necessity now does not mean it isn't wise to support Metal vs a standard on its way out which would not make a lot of sense in my opinion.

I think you will see this using the Metal API because this particular game is getting a substantial overhaul and they know very well it is something they will be supporting for many years just like its predecessor.

In general I am surprised that they are going so agressively for eSports with this update. I thought that was Starcraft 2s job? Didn't it become as successfull as they hoped, or does S1 and S2 really have two seperate audiences?

SC2 apparently never managed to displace SC1 from its throne, especially in Korea. The original still reigns supreme.

Wat a lewzer, Dirty Harry could have instantly come up with some great excuse not to play with the poopy cat, not just once, but dozens of times in a row.  Because of your shortcomings, you are now forced to play with little ol' me.  ::poops a little::
