So I fired up my Blackguards 2 again and found an interesting concept.
I tested one of the battle scenes, releasing all the prisoners hoping that my party would gain more experience. That didn't work, so just releasing the main prisoner is all you have to do as long as all the enemy guards are killed.

I played it once, the end is a truck in the face, and a light breeze caressing the visage. It mixes sweet sadness, wet eyes and smiles, and even a few silent laugh. It's both a sad and sweet memory, gently breaking heart, and still sometimes slightly haunting me. A mark in my memory, but it's also because of that I don't have the courage to try play it again, knowing the end I suspect I'll cry all along the game. :=)

EDIT: In my opinion the game should have one unlock, when you beat the game it unlock a possibility to change the end, for sure for a much weaker end, but I would like be able to change it so much.

Blackguard 1 and 2 are still on my massive backlog. I hope I come around to actually play it before the next decade…
