Nice. It was pretty sad how Freeverse was acquired and then forgotten. I'd like a remastered iOS version of burning monkey puzzle lab.

And damn, that image brings back memories. Probably the first iOS game I ever played.

Maybe with this new company we'll see what would have happened if DeNA hadn't gutted them and relegated them to bottom of the barrel mobile work. Everyone swoons over DeNA but what they did to Freeverse was blasphemous.

I hope we get an updated version of SimStapler.

Gah!  The story in SimStapler is way too complex and twisting.  I prefer a simpler more straightforward story line.  I just couldn't relate to the protagonist either.

I asked Ian and Colin about SimStapler when I interviewed them for my book. Thought Ian's response was cool:

Quote

SimStapler was just more goofing around instead of working. More pre-meditated though as we knew the end result would be a toy that Freeverse would release. SimStapler was “steal office supply ware” and for years we’d get staples and paperclips and whatnot mailed to us. That was great.

It was actually a stapler they had lying around their office, and they just thought something along the lines of 'there sure are a lot of these Sim games coming out. Wouldn't it be funny if one was just about stapling?' Steve Tze mentioned they still have that stapler.

They're still amused by how Jared went viral, too. Here's one of the things Colin said:

Quote

It was always amazing and absurd to us that something that took half an hour to make was more popular than the titles we spent years making! We never resented it though, it was always gratifying just to be known, (and loved), for something we made. And some of the stuff like the commercials were both fun and helped pay the rent on our office in Mom’s house.

Only the Freeverse guys could've pulled off such ridiculous accidental success.

This is welcome news and a nice find.
It was really sad how it all turned out for Freeverse... especially when it was the company that inspired me to become a Mac game dev.

DeNA sucks... and I'm not saying that just because of what they did to Freeverse, but they treat their games with the same level of respect and eagerness to kill them off (along with the required servers to play those games) once they've gotten the money they wanted out of them.
