Yeah, mice are One of Those Things that are almost impossible to recommend to another human because they're such personal devices so dependent on too many ergonomic variables. Claw or grip? Big hands or small? Long fingers or short? For RPGs or shooters or platformers or puzzlers? Etc Etc. So the one good thing about being old is that I've used enough mice by now that I can look at a photo and pretty much know immediately if it'll fit my hand and computing needs.

Case in point: a gaming mag drooled over and raved about the R.A.T. 7 so much in a review a few years ago that I bought it (over a hundred bucks, I think)......annnnnnd....never liked it.

The SteelSeries Rival that I'm currently using I bought when puttering around the local Best Buy not even looking for a mouse. I tried out a demo model and really liked how it felt in my hand. Never thought I'd EVER buy a peripheral at BB, but there you go. Hands-on means everything.

I've never really found a mouse that I've really liked. They are either terrible to use (Apple) or tacky/cheap-looking (everything else). I had a MX 518 for a while that has a nice red color, then it died. I've had a Deathadder for a few years, but  I've recently noticed something not quite right with the buttons. It's hard to explain, like they slide a little bit when I click them? It doesn't hamper usinility though.

Regarding trackpads, they are nice to have around for gestures. I have a Magic Trackpad for that purpose alongside my mouse. I recommend the utility Scroll Reverser, so you can have normal direction scroll function on a mouse alongside iOS-style scrolling on the trackpad.

Everyone raves about the gal damn RAT but I've never been able to find anyone IRL that likes the damn thing. Did MadCatz just rain down slush money on every floozy with a blog?

best buy price matches amazon and newegg I go in there all the time now.

That's cool about Best Buy. I didn't know they did that.

Yes.

I've owned MadCatz products before, and I won't ever again. Let's just say Razer on their worst day, even right now, is more reliable than MadCatz on their best.

I always see people complaining about Razer reliability online, but 5-6 of the people I know IRL with razer mice (including myself) have never had an issue. I have many friends that have been using Death Adders or Mamba's for years without issue. I know 3 people (including myself) who have Blackwidow keyboards who have also never had any issues.

My peripheral history:
  • Razer Death Adder (used for a few years, then sold with my gaming rig to my friend, who is still using it)
  • Logitech G9X (used for a few years, then sold to a friend, who is still using it)
  • MadCatz RAT 7 (used for around 1 year - then it broke.)
  • Steelseries Sensei (Used for around 6 months - then it broke)
  • Death Adder Chroma (Current mouse, have been using for about a year with no issues)
I want to get a logitech G900 but the think costs fraking $250. I am not paying that much.

The RAT and Sensei that broke just stopped working one day. One day they worked and the next the didn't. Both were just sitting on my computer desk and weren't dropped or anything. I didn't own any pets at the time so nothing chewed the cord. The lights would come on, but the actual sensor didn't work.

Logitech MX 518. I have two of them. They are currently at 8 and 6 years of life (Home, work), and still going strong. Unfortunately you can only really get them on eBay now.. :(

$250?! Where are you shopping? I haven't seen it above $150 anywhere.

Still damned expensive for a mouse though, I feel you.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about that ginormous "Canada tax" on electronics. Jeez.

If it went by exchange rate it would be $180 CDN. On newegg.ca right now it's $300 CDN. Joy.
