Good Good. Get rid of all the sketchy late 90s web plugins.

About time. Flash is next, I hope.

Though java 9 has been pushed back until 2017 I'm still breaking out a little champaign. Adobe already announced depreciation plans for Flash for HTML5 tools. Oracle is following on their coattails.

Granted it will be years and years before dum 3rd party vendors update things. We have MISSION CRITICAL software at work that only in November was finally updated for I.E. 11 compatibility. Well with the holidays, testing and validation didn't get done until early this month. We've only started rolling out IE 11 a week after security update stopped. There's still vendors that specify Java 6 for supported compatibility. We won't see the real fruits of this until close to 2020 but it is refreshing to see these vendors cast off their bloated, insecure software from the 90s nonetheless.

God, about time.

I never made anything in a java applet, purely on the sole reason that they had so much suck brought in with the plugin, that I never wanted to taint a website with that crap.

Flash was only ever used in a library format for 'absolutely needed' situations though. Generally I hated any website that had 'flash menus and navigation wizbangs'. Because they were all over the top done, painful, unintuitive, and just all around froofroo. The only times I used flash, was like... so playing a video/trailer was cleaner than other alternatives.

Sadly, html5 is where video playback is headed, and no one can agree on a common codec. So in order to support videos in html5 across all the mainstream browsers... one has to re-encode all their videos and store them in triplicate on the server, references by a single video tag. Seriously guys? AGREE ON ONE (like mpg!).

Sad thing is Java gets a real bad rap because of the fokin web plugin but you can make legit cross platform stuff with Java as intended. Look at minecraft. Hell they just bundle the desired version of java right in anyway to avoid any unsupported version business. It's just the web plugin that has been such garbage (though looking at it through the eyes of history it's heart was in the right place circa 1997).

I've already ditched Flash here. Either it works with HTML5 or bust for various videos online. It isn't often an issue and when it is, I just skip the content.

The MGS video player we use, is a mix of vrious technologies all piled on top cascading down to what is supported by the user. The fore front being html5 for all Safari/iOS users, then going down to a subordinate of flash wrapper for playing 'any kind of video' that has been jambed into the system over the DECADE.

It would actually be a good months worth of work, to go through all the video trailers, encode them in the three formats needed, and wipe out flash and force html5 only on mgs/wgs!

More work for Frigidman, I approve this process.

I absolutely love they way they laugh. It doesn't even matter what at, just that laugh makes me laugh every time.

I think I will try that and see how it works out for me. I loathe flash.

I've been happy to find that most places I go it's a non-issue now. Only once in a while do I run into something that wants flash and it was never anything of particular importance to me. I hope as more people do not use it that more places see visits by browsers without flash support and respond accordingly to accelerate its demise.
