It's certain funny how things have changed. I remember, back in the day, desperately waiting for anything to show up on the Mac and then snatching it up immediately, often for $40 – $50. Good luck with your plan.

This is true although I might pause when buying yet another game these days in reality I don't think my spend overall has really gone up much over the years, you just get a lot more for your money - especially with regular sales.

Whether or not the quality is always better I don't know. There is the rose tinted glasses problem... but at least if a game turns out to be really bad you feel less ripped off than those full price boxed titles of years ago....

This is true. Mind you, I used to have time and not much money, but now the situation is reversed.

This reminds me of people who grew up in the Depression who turned into hoarders-- the frugalness and instinct to stockpile that they learned became a disability later on. I should be allocating my time as carefully as I used to allocate my dollars. Easier said than done of course.

Or like I spent 4 years in just Marathon ...

Ahhhh the good ole days!

Marathon captured my imagination in a serious way.  I spent YEARS playing and modding and otherwise involved in the community with this game to the exclusion of all others.  Those were the good old days.

I think I'm naturally going to fall into this new years resolution. My backlog is so large, the only games really on my radar are Star Fox Zero and Crackdown 3. I was a little sad this sale season, there wasn't anything I really wanted. I picked up a copy of broforce but that was about it other than a couple trains in train simulator my kid wanted.

In '88 I played Microsoft Flight Simulator on my Fat Mac, it used those old MacPaint patterns for textures.  In my accessories menu I installed Daleks, Missile Command, and a few other freeware games I got from the MUG at my wife' university.  I also played those infocom text games at that time.  Lots of fun to be had on a Mac.

I played Asteroids in a pool hall I had to drive to a neighboring town to get to and it cost me a quarter a pop too. We didn't have no home computers. Computers were for space ships and the government.

Dude, Ancient Art of War on the classic Macintosh was my popsnizzle. That is legitimately my first strategy game and one of the first games I ever played.

Xcom 2 is getting rave reviews, but I've read this thread so I'm immune!

For lack of longterm data we are unsure if this immunity is really lasting or not though. Time will tell. Previous results have not been so good.

Well I bought Trainz: A New Era at MacDerpStore and Ark Survival Evolved at humble so I'm already off the wagon.

FYI. Trainz is not an acceptable substitute for Train Simulator and Ark is literally unplayable on OS X right now. Frak, even on my PC it sinks below 20FPS frequently on Midrange settings. And it's not particularly great looking at those settings. Here's hoping it gets a real good optimization pass at some point. Reportedly they will try to support Metal once UE4 supports Metal so maybe it will be playable at some point on OS X.
