So, I noticed that new, substantive updates hit for both BL2 and BLTPS on Steam yesterday.

Here are the details of the changes to both games:

http://steamcommunit...955196920387593

http://steamcommunit...955196920396360

However, once I launched the games, the Aspyr launcher that pops up and has been changed. It's a different design for both games, and the location for the start game button has been moved to the right.

Does this mean that Aspyr has worked in Metal support into the release?? Pretty much all of the changes to both games have been made by Gearbox, but if Aspyr just ported them and sent them on to users as-is, why redesign their launcher??

Hmmm...I'm playing around with settings now, but the games do seem smoother at higher settings than better. (They also crash out) I'll pass on numbers when I have them.

Very doubtful. This is most likely just a release to keep the Mac port in sync with the Windows versions. And why change the launcher? Why not? Feral has redesigned their launcher a while ago, too, and snuck in the new version in some small patches. Since both companies now also work with Linux, I guess they simply want a unified launcher design for both platforms.

Hunh, very interesting guys.

I updated and switched to the latest nVidia web driver, in the hopes that it would help my crashing out problem. It did, and so far, so good.

In the past, to get consistent great frame rates (50+ fps) in BL2 or BLTPS, I would have to run at lowest settings and at pretty much the lowest 16x9 resolution. I mean everything turned off, here. I've been playing around with settings just see how things feel and look. I can now get those great frame rates (between 45 to 60) with everything maxed out and resolution at 1344 x 756.

1920 x 1080 is playable now at everything maxed out - between 20 and 30 fps. It's not great for online play, but not what I have been used to!

I don't know what to chalk this up to. Is it due to improvements in OpenGL? Is it due to the new Metal API?

Anyone have thoughts? Your own observations?

You've answered your own question in the beginning of your post. ;)

It could be the nVidia web drivers, but I noticed the faster performance before switching back to the upgraded web drivers. The only reason I switched to them was because BL2 and BLTPS kept crashing after this most recent update via Steam.

I suppose I could switch back to the OS X default drivers and play around with it then.
