Has anyone tried this up and coming gaming communication tool. I'm not really a big voice user as my computer gaming space is next to one of the kids's rooms so I can't be bellering up a storm every time tBC gets distracted by a tumbleweed.

Looks interesting enough. I know some people that have swapped it out for teamspeak as their daily VoIP driver.

Any interest in an IMG channel we can then all promptly ignore. :teehee:

Given the activity there was in the IMG IRC channel, I must say that i don't think this would go far.

It could be handy for Elite Dangerous.

If you are gaming on the PC (as sadly this doesnt run on OSX):

I used Razor Coms http://razorcoms.com/ with my squad during PlanetSide2... which we then spilled over into SWTOR, and LOTRO with it... since we could pop in whenever our machines were on, and we could talk. Didn't have to run a server, or maintain anything yourself. You just setup groups of friends and join if or whenever you want.

It had the usual ease-of-use flair for push to talk, and voice recognition. Support for any default mic device you had setup and all that. Works surprisingly well with very little to zero loss, and no hit on the network speeds or FPS.

And it was totally free, didn't even need to own any razor devices!

SADLY they have not yet made the OSX client (I guess because the PC one is still considered 'beta').

Yeah, for some reason some people in ED just cannot be heard for nothing. Took my brother a while to mess with his settings before he was better to hear... then it all went broken again, then he changed it, and it worked, then it went wonky. And like with CMDR DotMac ... I can usually hear the first 1-2 seconds of what he says, then the rest gets all cut off with a static pop.

So, what, you have to leave a web browser open all the time to make this work? EESSH. How is that less of a hog than any of those others? ;)

You can download a client for any number of platforms. The web interface is a bonus.

So, have you tried it? If it works, it's sorely needed. Skype is a pain for groups and Vent's interface is an abomination on OS X (what my friends insist on using).

The problem with any of these apps is getting your friends to ditch their current setup.

My biggest issue is a voice tool that allows PTT. I refuse to game with headphones and a stick stuck on the side of my face.

Another big plus, is if it does PTT audio-ducking. Where when you push to talk, it silences the speakers to some custom set degree, to ensure no feedback.

Could never get the hang of PTT because I would always talk and forget to do the pushing.

I did that on a conference call last week. Can't y'all hear me answering you. Oh, Lync has been on mute for five minutes. My pride.

I have the opposite problem. I forget to let go of the PTT key, and its just held down all the time because I don't realize I am :(

Do the members of your party not freak out when this happens? Whenever I do that I get a very swift ear pounding.

Not really, my desk mic is pretty durn directional and even though I have 5.1... other people say they barely hear game sounds come through my channel if at all.

I am a chip munching, mouth-breathing, slurpy swallowing goon when I'm playing online (at least that's what my friends would have me believe). WHERE IS MY MOUNTAIN DEW!?

LOL!

Well, in all fairness, when I reach for the coffee to slurp... my hand leaves the keyboard, and thusly the PTT key.
