I just downloaded this (on the PC, though a Mac build is also available) and have been playing it the last few days.

It's a great deal of fun, and doesn't feel like an alpha product at all (some of the levels notwithstanding, where they still have blank walls, etc).  It's fast paced and frenetic and fun, and really feels like a deliberate throwback to UT99.

my gaming PC is an i7 4790K @ 4.5Ghz and a GTX 970 w/16GB of RAM.

Runs... well let me turn on my OSD and see what the framerates are like, but the game auto-detected me at the max settings (at 1080p) and is completely fluid.

OS says a solid 60fps @ 1080p / max

I should try this on my iMac and see how it performs but I'd expect it is still loaded with debugging code not compiled out yet so it is bound to be slower than it will later on.

It already has massively improved: when I tried the pre-alpha a few months ago, it was virtually unplayable on my rMBP. But now, it runs much, much smoother.

good good. 90s style shooters are the best. I struggle to understand why so many people I know turn their noses up at Serious Sam 3.

Just tried it out, an my initial reaction is not one I should put to words here, the content filter would go haywire... so I take the censored version:

Holy fraking crazy batpopsnizzle superman on steroids that is some intense action! It feels even faster than the original, but I might be wrong there, but man that was fun!

Right now this game is at the top of my list to buy.  Just straight up mindless firepower fun like the manly man games of the 90's.  Toss back a couple of shots of testosterone for courage and you are ready to exterminate.  I would have made a loyal and trustworthy Dalek.

I think he meant Serious Sam 3, but I'd say he should buy the UT alpha for free first! Best money I spent all day!

I agree. All the fluff they've added particularly in multiplayer with ranking up, earning experience, etc., etc. really ruins them as far as I am concerned. I think they make something that was beautiful in its simplicity ugly with so much feature bloat. What I loved about the old Quake and UT games was just jumping in and playing. The only thing to learn was the maps basically. I also liked the speed. The matches are intense because of it. I would actually feel physically tired after playing those because I'd get so pumped up during play.

I really haven't played online shooters since those days because in my mind they all pretty much suck.

Oh, and I did also love Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory as well as Soldier of Fortune 2 for awesome online fun and all of them from the same era when I enjoyed this stuff.
