Eh?  Get ol skeletal bones?  Is that a mighty sword or staff or sumpin?  Or by "get" do you mean escort them to Valhalla.

No is a skeleton horse you can summon. And he don't snitch on you like a rube?

Reminds me, I've seen a headless horseman a couple of times on the road at night.  Didn't notice if his ride was a skeleton.  What's that all about?  Going to try to pick a fight with him next time I see him.

I think he just wanders around, at least if there is a quest for him I haven't found it. I'm sure there is a wiki somewhere. I have avoided most of the quest databases over the past 3 years because I like the thrill of exploration in RPGs. If I am just going to follow some min/max guide, why not just read a book. Skyrim has so very much to explore. In 3 years I'm sure I've only discovered a quarter of it.

I do have a paper guide I consult occasionally (I know I KNOW). I'm old like that. Plus it came with a sweet foldout map. I'M THE MAP.

I agree, going into a game already knowing everything you should know about the game... kind of ruins the point for me.

I do on occasion consult online guides, if I'm just getting fed up with a certain aspect of the game, but need to finish something in it. Like... "ok, im missing 1 doohicky out of 300... internet, TELL ME WHERE IT IS".

Most times though, I just grab a hint. Give me a vague map pointer so I at least know where to narrow my search down... so I'm not spending five days in ENTIRELY THE WRONG UNIVERSE.

Oh, yeah. I love guides, especially for older games you really needed them too. When I bought all the Sierra classics I will probably never get to on GOG I also went on Amazon.com and located used copies of all the original guide books for everything. While I was at it, I got the books for everything Ultima and everything Might and Magic, both strategy and RPG. I had to have them! Plus I found the original guide for Stonekeep!

Remember the days of hint books that only showed the hint if you covered the hint with a special "magic marker" that made the print visible?  I like things I can remember.  Like those old paper caps on milk bottles delivered to the door.

UHS was great for that. Well, maybe it still is, but I admit it's been a long time since I used them.

Yeah, have fun with that. I will be surprised if you find them all.

TBC, I would advise you download the Unofficial Patches, as they fix many, many bugs in the game and make quite a few quests finishable. However, saying all of that, it is good your niece has warned you about mods, because unless you are careful and do a large amount of research you can extremely swiftly break your save games, and or whole game folder.

…and yes, I know I am replying to a thread which is nearly three months old.

True, but what I'm also meaning is that I would be surprised that you can find them all, considering it is well known that the game sometimes locks you out of finding a few, or they just go missing.

I Installed a mod, to get rid of the compass, mostly for the quest markers.

I find that games without a 'minimap' in the corner... actually allow me to see the game in front of me. Wander, and learn the map, and area by sight. Not some lil map. I find that when the minimap is there, I spend more time staring at it while moving around, than actually looking forward.

So I'm torn about them. When they don't exist, I seem to "remember more about the game world" than when they do exist. But deliberately going in and removing a minimap feature? Hmm... thats a tough decision.

I use console if bethesda bugs try to give me any guff. There was this one bugged puzzle that the switches didn't lower the gates in the right order that I smacked my head against for hours. To be clear I have not actually gotten all the stones yet but there are markers up when I activate the quest.

No mods for the cat.  I'm not diligent enough to do the proper research.  There is so much to see and do in this game, I don't really care if a couple of them are unavailable, I'm maxed out on the stuff that DOES work.  Though I do wish I had a grapple and parachute mod like Just Cause.

Everyone has to try the thomas mod at least once in their life. It's required by federal law.

The Thomas mod has now been done by the same author for Fallout 4. I was just reading about that this morning. Too funny! My grandson loves Thomas and his friends. He was showing me all the different ones he got for Christmas on FaceTime the day after.

When I downloaded the mod to remove the compass and add in more information for quests, it was like a whole new approach to romping through the country opened up, it was fantastic!

Yeah, I can remember a few where I had to just noclip or something else to finish the quest. I also remember when Imperial scum, I had to go into the game's config files so I could kill Ulfric at the end of the Civil War.

And I will be extremely interested to know when, and even if you are able find all of them,

That is completely unacceptable understandable, I have killed one save which I had over 150 and was most of the way through that game. Another character I have had to restart three times because of poor modding. To be clear this has been when I have gone past the limit of 255 ESPs/ESMs in my load order, which would equate to over 200 different mods, at least. I have recently played past the 1000 hour mark for Skyrim, and I am quite sure that without any mods, I would have found it rather hard to keep playing to that point.

The Thomas mod? Oh dear that popsnizzle is hilarious!

By the way, it is great to be back. It has been over two years! Good to see all you guys are still around, a few new people too.
