I am in the market for a replacement battery for my 17'' Macbook Pro from 2011. Does anyone here have experience in buying these? I am a bit wary of just buying whatever one I find that claims to be compatible, as I would rather not have my laptop explode. :P

I've had about a 33% success rate getting an actual quality battery from random third party battery makers off Amazon when I was trying to save money. I would not recommend it.

I've had a 100% success rate with getting a quality battery when buying a NewerTechnology one from OWC. Link to one that would be compatible with yours. I've gotten batteries from them for PowerBook G3s, PowerBook G4s, pre-unibody MacBook Pros, and unibody MacBook Pros and it's always worked out flawlessly.

If you can't get an Apple battery, Newer Technology's batteries are the next best thing.

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

Don't buy on eBay, as you'll likely get a popsnizzlety battery. Buy from a retailer so you'll have warranty.
