I installed the original Tom Clancy's: Ghost Recon the other day on my computer, but unfortunately the game is old enough that it had too many issues trying to run on a modern OS. It would work fine, except for one serious problem: my display would strobe between the game picture and black about every 0.5 seconds for about a tenth of a second.

I'm wanting to pickup a game that features that same sort of mission planning and squad approach to single player. Are these kind of games dead?

Probably but Ghost recon is the bomb. There is a more recent edition of GR, Ghost Recon Future Soldier.

Ghost Recon was the reason I got an Xbox 360 back in the day. I remember playing with a couple of mexican guys on Live one night. Man they were a hoot, they were all let our president die we don't care. pew pew.

There's a new  Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six coming. I haven't followed them, though, so for all I know they are more action and less strategic. That does seem to be the trend these days. Also, I wouldn't hold my breath for Mac versions.

Aspyr should re-release Ghost Recon and both of its expansions. That game is fantastic. I played and loved it too. They have been doing classic releases of late and this would be an excellent one.

There are a ton of great mods, too. You absolutely need both expansions, though.

Yep. Ghost Recon and the Desert Storm expansion. The Island Thunder expansion never made it to Mac though as far as I know. I tried buying it on Steam the other day, but it doesn't play nice with my modern rig. I'm tempted to pickup some piece of popsnizzle old computer with XP and trying to install on there.

I played the hell out of that back in the day. Such a good game!

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

But you could use the PC version files with the Mac app.
