I've seen reports saying that mafia III runs fine on nVidia cards.

'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3' was just released on the Mac App Store, a mere three years after it came to Steam for Mac.

No DLCs are available, so just the base game for now, but it does support Spec Ops (co-op) and Mac-App-only multiplayer via Game Center.
They also released an app to set up a dedicated server for the Mac App Store version.

Please do elaborate, I'd read a comment to suggest they may get supported later if the drivers improve (High Sierra?) but the only video I found in MacOS was in Russia - they seemed to have a GeForce 650?

If it works but is just unsupported I'd probably pick it up whilst on sale.

I might too, pretty good deal right now.

If it runs fine on either 680MX or Iris 550, great. If not, there's Boot Camp until they sort out Intel and Nvidia driver issues.

Forget about the Iris. Even on Windows intel GPUs are not supported.

Was feeling brave so decided to risk Mafia III whilst on sale given the video I'd seen of it working on a NVIDIA equipped machine, but unfortunately it just crashes on launch with:

Exception Type:        EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL)
Exception Codes:       0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000000000
Exception Note:        EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

I'm note sure that is actually GPU related but this game will have to wait now until I either get a RX580, a new Mac or give in a buy a bigger SSD and setup bootcamp.

Have you tried with the web driver?

No just built-in, I never bothered with the web driver since changing to the GTX680 from a 7950.

I briefly considered it but read about some problems with F1 2016 which is getting most of my gaming time at the moment so didn't want to mess with that.

Might be worth a try.  You can switch back and forth with a simple menu item and then restart once you've installed the web driver.

So I finally got to try the web drivers on 10.12.6 but just get the same crash unfortunately.

News of >observer_

I saw it available for purchase on my Wish List, then only saw a Windows logo (tl;dr—it's coming…).

Since this game uses UE4, which supports macOS, porting it should be easier.

It doesn't look like Aspyr is in a hurry to port games to the Mac these days. The last one was what, Mafia III? And priori to it... Civ 6, a year ago?. Basically one game every 6 months.

Yeah, all we know that's coming is Observer and Inner Space. I'm sure Firaxis is working on the first Civ VI expansion; maybe they're working on that too.

And here I am, still waiting for Aspyr to port Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II...
If it takes 10 years, like KOTOR II, Iíll check again with Aspyr in 2020.

I think it has been a good while since the last iOS port by Aspyr also. I can't recall if that was Jade Empire or maybe something else.

And Aspyr may not even be the ones porting Observer. More likely, it's Bloober team who's doing the job.

It was Jade Empire and that was over a year ago.
Also on iOS, Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy was discontinued.

Hard to know for sure, but I can imagine Aspyr is lending Bloober Team, PolyKnight and Digital Continue a helping hand or two, for the Mac and Linux ports of Observer, InnerSpace and Next up Hero.
