I dunno. After playing Sleeping Dogs through (and without spoiling any of the story), there certainly seems to be a lot of Trickery of the Dragons Tail going on.

So, Metro 2033 and Last Light are getting "remastered" editions. The biggest changes being to Metro 2033 which is being ported to Last Light's engine which they say should make it run and look better. But here's the thing... Right now they are steamplay enabled.. but only for Windows and Linux... not Mac.

http://store.steampo...com/app/286690/

http://store.steampo...com/app/287390/

Right now it's announced for the new generation of consoles (Xbox One and PS4) and Windows PC, with Linux\SteamOS versions coming later.

The Polygon article said it was coming to the Mac, but maybe that's a typo.

I'm a bit miffed that I bought Last Light last week  during the humble sale, and now I'll have to pay to upgrade it.  I'll probably pass, it sounds like most of the changes are for  2033 anyway.

Yeah, most other news sites omit Mac and the steam pages for those games don't have mac requirements listed and only have Windows and Linux icons for Steamplay included. But then again, most gaming news sites seem to have a blind spot to the Mac in general. But yeah, that latter thing. Perhaps they are just jumping the gun on Linux at this point because of Steamboxes? :P

Here's a link to the polygon article Cougar was referring to: http://www.polygon.c...2033-last-light

Most other sites say, "The new versions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, as well as the Metro Redux pack, will be available sometime this summer. The publisher adds that dedicated Linux and SteamOS versions are scheduled to launch later this year."

The question is, who is editing the press release and why? Polygon editing it adding in Mac or everyone else removing Mac?

Here's the press release as quoted by everyone else:

Quote

4A Games and Deep Silver are bringing the iconic Metro series to the next generation. METRO REDUX features fully re-mastered and improved versions of both METRO 2033 and METRO: LAST LIGHT, creating the most compelling Metro experience ever.

With re-worked next-gen visuals, smooth 60FPS gameplay on console, as well as new and improved content and features, METRO REDUX is much more than a simple HD upgrade.

For the REDUX edition, Metro 2033 has been completely overhauled:

The original game has been rebuilt in the latest and greatest iteration of the 4A Engine, bringing all the graphical and gameplay improvements from Last Light to Metro 2033 Redux
Enjoy completely re-mastered visuals: advanced lighting, dynamic weather, more detailed characters with improved animation, more dynamic destruction and improved smoke, fire and particle effects
Experience radically improved gameplay: advanced enemy AI, improved combat and stealth mechanics, superior weapon handling and more responsive, intuitive controls plus signature features from Last Light such as the atmospheric ‘mask wipe’ mechanic, weapon customization, and silent kills and takedowns
Metro: Last Light Redux has also received a graphical facelift and gameplay improvements that carry across both titles, including new melee animations, and the fan-requested ‘Check Watch’ and ‘Check Inventory’ features. It also includes all previously released Season Pass add-on content – a further 10 hours of single-player gameplay.

With METRO REDUX, players now have the choice to experience both Metro games the way they want with the introduction of two unique ‘Play Styles.’

Those who favoured the more survival horror oriented gameplay of Metro 2033 can play both campaigns in the ‘Survival’ Play Style, a fraught slow-burn fight for survival with limited resources, deadlier enemy AI, and slower reload speeds. Those who enjoyed the more action oriented gameplay of Metro: Last Light can try the ‘Spartan’ Play Style, providing Artyom with a powerful set of combat skills and more plentiful resources.

In addition, the legendary Ranger Mode returns to both games, providing the most immersive and challenging experience as the HUD is stripped away and hardcore rules apply.

Upon release, Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux will each be available separately as a digital download for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and PC a suggested $24.99 / €19.99 / £15.99.

Alongside the digital release, a boxed compilation containing both games, titled METRO REDUX will be available at retail for a suggested $49.99 / €39.99 / £34.99.

Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux and the compilation Metro Redux are scheduled for release this Summer for Xbox One, PlayStation, and Windows PC.

Dedicated Linux and SteamOS versions will also release later this year.

Metro Redux is based on the internationally bestselling novel METRO 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky.

Well, I asked them on Twitter and they gave a vague "Mac versions are not confirmed at this stage."

I didn't but not unexpected given Feral ported the first one and most new titles they seem to bring to Steam now.

I'm sure it will do well with the arcade racing fan who it appears many use gamepads and drive with out of the car cameras but as some one who like a sim like feel, uses a wheel and prefers the in car more realistic (if restricted) view I'm not sure I want to support them removing this option although I do want to encourage more Mac games and support Feral's hard work....

Considering that Virtual Programming is porting Dirt Showdown, it might also be them.

Yeah, I've been holding off reinstalling it via Wine in anticipation of that port. I mean it runs OK in Wine multichannel sound and all but the menus are all glitchy.

I wouldn't mind if Zoo Tycoon (2013) was brought to the Mac but Microsoft didn't even bring that to the PC, it's Xbone/X360 exclusve. :P

Some interesting indie games:

The UFO: Enemy Unknown remake Xenonauts is preparing Mac and Linux versions. Both are only Wine wrappers, though.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet also is coming for Mac and Linux. The game originally was released for Xbox a few years ago, was favourably received and has a soundtrack by Dimmu Borgir. :D

Last but not least, X-Plane 10 is interestingly also on its way to Steam I just noticed that it has already been officially released.

Why did you remove your mention of Q*Bert Rebooted? As I was going to say. I heard from the announcement news articles that it was coming to Mac. However, to be frank I didn't like the original game very much... and I've no idea if I'd like the reboot. On the other hand it reminds me of the game Pac-man DX+ Championship Edition which I played quite a bit in parallels and was addicted to for a while. I'd like if THAT game came to the Mac. That was a very good reboot of a game from the same era.

*edit* I guess it's out already. I can't get it at the moment though. :P
