I played about an hour of Dead Island just now. That's no slip.. it was released. Also, those requirements seem a tad high considering the graphics quality and performance I got. I mean... graphically speaking it looks like a 2005-2007 game to me and performs as such.

75% Off on Steam right now... they've also slipped (?) and put preliminary Mac system requirements without listing it as available for Mac.

Minimum:

Processor: Intel Core i5 2.7 GHz
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVidia GeForce GT 640M 512MB

EDIT: It is listed as Mac compatible, on sale, but the main game only, for now...

It is not "Minimum" but "Recommended". Techland or Deep Silver (or Virtual Programming) was wrong.

Yes, it's coming to the Mac courtesy of Virtual Programming.

We have partnered to bring both Dead Island and SpecOps: The Line recently.

I don't know about the rest of you but Dead Island is running like choppy crap on my setup no matter how I configure it. I can find no way of tweaking it outside of the game. It's almost shameful how laggy it is.

No problems with it here and I was running it at 2560x1440 high apart from slight micro pause going from one major area to the next.

Definitely having problems and it appears to be pointing to Dead Island. In Console.app I have PAGES of this;

4/2/14 23:02:24.059 Dead Island[15670]: Exception in Cocoa events handler! Name: NSInternalInconsistencyException, reason: TSMProcessRawKeyCode failed (-192)
...
4/2/14 23:15:14.484 Dead Island[15670]: Exception in Cocoa events handler! Name: NSInternalInconsistencyException, reason: TSMProcessRawKeyCode failed (-192)

It's there about fifteen times every ten seconds while I played ( 23:02:24.059 to 23:15:14.484 )

I also see this but don't know what it refers to;

4/2/14 23:15:42.493 usernoted[1124]: Connection does not have the proper entitlement (com.apple.developer.notificationcenter-identifiers) to connect on behalf of com.apple.appstore. All communication will be denied.

The next line it appears Steam (Beta package version 1396481899) itself is telling on Dead Island;

4/2/14 23:16:09.204 steam[13243]: The function `CGFontSetShouldUseMulticache' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.

Toward the last couple of minutes I was playing I threw a grenade at some zombies that had gathered below me, they died, my character screamed something for a split second before ALL sound was killed from Dead Island. I had to force quit after dying. I'll note that I bought the GOTY Edition instead of just the Mac-compatible game. I don't know if it's trying to load things not available yet.

No, that's actually Steam itself. I can get that same message without Dead Island.

You're right. After reexamining it became clear that there was no solid Dead Island reference. VPLTD have already responded to the ticket I've opened with them and it turns out the first item being spammed to the console happens no matter what. The second item appears to have something to do with the Mac App Store and not Dead Island.

*sigh*

I'm wondering if it may have something to do with Sophos' on-access scanning. Disabling it helped with CoD4 a little, albeit not much.

It's Borderlands-meets-Zombie-Apocalypse, almost literally.

It was a decent game, good fun.  Only major dissapointment was that guns dont start being a thing until too late in the game for my tastes, but the crafting system is great (i love making throwing knives that explode after they stick).  Story is even pretty neat.

For whatever reason, though, the sequel (despite being quite literally more of the same), Riptide, wasnt that good.

And don't forget the almighty Foot-Kick!  - Really you can mostly go around and kill about anything with good old kick in the groins.

Same here on my 2009 MacPro with 7950 and 10.9.2.

The graphics textures looks poor even on the highest settings and it keeps going from smooth to a slideshow all the time it seems. There must be something wrong as it doesn't look anywhere near as demanding as the latest releases.

Also frustratingly it won't let me choice my native resolution of 2560 x 1440 - the maximum listed it 1920 x 1440 so I have to use 1920 x1080 to keep the aspect ratio. If I try and change it in the video.scr file it just goes back to the default 800 x 600 or whatever....
