The third-person shooter "Spec Ops: The Line" from 2012 seems to be getting a Mac release. At least there are corresponding entries in the Steam database.

While not necessarily the most original title when it comes to the gameplay, "The Line" was generally lauded for its intelligent writing (a variation on Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness", which also is the basis for "Apocalypse Now"). And Zero Punctuation's Yahtzee really liked it, which is rare enough.

2K no suprise there. I wonder who would do the port though.
Would you bet on Aspyr or Transgaming?

Definitely not Transgaming. Otherwise the executable in the Steam database would be given as "[Gametitle].app/Contents/MacOS/cider". Aspyr seems the likely choice.

Just finished it on the PC. Although I agree with reviewers that it has good story hampered by poor gameplay, Spec Ops should be lauded for what it tried to do (and didn't completely succeed). There are definitely some "oh f*ck" moments, and overall, I think it's ten times more powerful than the

I bought the PC version in a Steam sale this Spring and am anxiously awaiting the rapidly-approaching day I can play it (and everything else) maxed out. Heard lots and lots of good things.

Hopefully this won't be another one of those "Mac Edition" Steam releases where you have to buy both the Mac version and the PC version, and you instead get both for owning either one like most are.

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

The bad gameplay is, ironically enough, a meta-commentary on why we shoot dudes in the face in many (most?) of our videogames. The repetitive nature of it (shooting dudes in the face, ad nauseum) also complements the absurdity of war. It's hard to explain, but if the gameplay were actually good, I would argue that the game would not be able to tell the story it's trying to tell. It would be a different story.

It's definitely the best story I've experienced in a game in a long while, and while the gameplay is bad, play it anyway. And if you're further interested, someone wrote a 50,000-word critical reading on the game. No, I haven't read the full thing yet.
