Hey guys,

I just finished up writing about how I believe Game Centre can be improved for both User's and Developers a like.

Great article, Mark.

I would like to see a Jony-Ive-makeover of the GUI, chat with voice (maybe there is a way to implement it with FaceTime and Messages) and a playtime-counter like in Steam.

But there are some things that are better in MAS/Game Centre than in Steam: You can hide/unhide apps and games in the Mac App Store, its MUCH faster and more stable (Steam still feels like a beta product) and the 'Gamerscore'-feature.

Game Center: the Ping of gaming?

So many of Apple's services, GC included, would be so much better if Apple aknowledged that the world doesn't live in a benevolent Apple dictatorship-utopia. Remember when Jobs announced they'd be releasing the FaceTime spec? Still waiting three years later...

People actually use that piece of popsnizzle? Well, considering how many more and more fraking idiots are entering the mac population, I guess I am not surprised.

Game Center on iOS is bigger than both PSN and Xbox Live. And it works pretty well on OSX, too. At least in Sonic Racing. I don't have Arkham City and XCOM yet, so I couldn't test them.

Nobody remembers the Letterpress incident? Some games will use it for achievements, but not matchmaking, because like almost all of Apple's web services, it isn't very good. Also, its social features (like the OP's post states) are abysmal. Hence the Ping comparison.

Wait Arkham City is supported in Game Centre? Like achievements & iCloud sync?

I believe xcom uses Game Ranger for its multi player.

Gamecenter requires a major GUI overhaul before I'll use it.

Agreed. I'd rather play standalone at the moment. Wait and see what the next OS upgrades bring I guess.
