I have been having some trouble with a couple of games I recently downloaded which were RAR files..

I downloaded the RAR files to both sides of my Mac--a Mac Mini partitioned for both 10.6 and 10.8.  But I had a bit of trouble after that. I extracted twice, using two programs: first RAR expnader, the unRAR.  I did wind up getting icons, which as it turned out, were not folders.   But nothing seems to launc the games.  I don't get it since the extractions are full of files.   I tried opening everything in these folders, but nothing launched the game.

The fact that it has happened for two games, tells me it is probably just me.

Is there a specific place I should be looking for on my Mac to launch the game?

Can anyone please help?

I have the full version of one and a demo of the other.

Incidentally, the game was purchased and downloaded directly and legally from the publisher.

Which publisher supplies games in RAR?

The demo is a Steam Greenlight project, Hogee and the Magic Fire:

The other is not officially released yet, so I'd rather not say here.  I did send you a PM.

Maybe the Hogee demo seems to have incorrect permission when it extracts, that's why no one uses (should use) RAR for Mac games.

I get this in console.app when trying to launch it in 10.8:

20.11.2012 21:38:11,258 com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[215]: ([0x0-0x90d90d].unity.robione.!Unity3D_Hogee[7490]) Job failed to exec(3) for weird reason: 13
20.11.2012 21:38:11,260 Dock[330]: no information back from LS about running process

Given that the permissions are set okay for me as a user I assume that the Mono runtime or Unity need write permissions inside the bundle for some kind of pid or config, not sure.

I extracted via The Unarchiver.

Running: chmod -R 777 ~/Downloads/Hogee_demo_v1.0_MAC fixed it and it's running now.

chmod -R 777 is a good one to know. I run it on my /Applications/Games folder and /Music folder because I want users to access both. The /Music was a little tricky because I have to setup the ~/Music to be a shortcut to /Music so its shared across users and in each account I have to set up iTunes to not manage the media library but leave that radio button checked in my account.

More on topic, The Unarchiver is my go-to app 99.99% of the time but there has been the RARE occasion to use Keka.

I congratulate drabyss on the polite and patient way he responded to the piracy accusation, and although Hansi didn't apologize for it he did even better (IMHO) by working out the solution.

It restores my faith in humanity.
