In a recent Facebook posting Feral Interactive has revealed steps to unlock a series of special saved games for the real time strategy title, Empire: Total War Gold Edition. The Gold Rush saves provide players with copious amounts of the shiny mineral to power their expansionistic plans.

As many of you reading this post will know, Empire: Total War - Gold Edition does not have any cheats, no gold (even though it’s the “Gold Edition” how confusing), no instant build, no Oliphants (see Rome: Total War, or indeed look out of the window on a misty Middle Earth morning).

Still, our blue-shirted technical wizards (they call themselves “engineers”, but we know better) often try and hide some cool features in the game. Because they started programming Empire after watching one too many Bond films, they decided they wanted...

GOLD.

Lots and lots of Gold.

After some forceful “beating” of the source code and many "special" versions of the game, (fuelled by elixir of a friendly forest redshirt), progress was made and nuggets of the "Gold Rush" saves emerged from the grainy pan of the source code.
