CD Projekt RED has announced the Mac release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition. The fantasy RPG sequel to The Witcher is based on the writings of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, and follows the continuing adventures of the monster slayer known as Geralt.

The player is Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, a witcher. Entangled in the political turmoil that engulfed Temeria, Geralt helped quell the rebellion of the Order of the Flaming Rose. Soon after, he saved King Foltest’s life when the monarch was attacked by a witcher-like assassin. He continues to protect the king, serving as his bodyguard as Foltest strives to bring peace to his kingdom. The Order’s last bastions have yielded to the royal army, yet one more task remains - the Baroness La Valette announced her secession from the realm, and her fortress must be taken. A month after the attempted assassination, Foltest’s armies stand at the gates of La Valette Castle, preparing for a final assault. Still at Foltest’s side, Geralt is among them, unable to begin his personal quest to discover the mysterious assassin’s origin and identity…

Thanks to the new, ultra-modern REDengine, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings features both beautiful graphics and sophisticated in-game mechanics, drawing players into the most lively and believable world ever created in a video game.

Defining new standards for realistic, non-linear game narration, The Witcher 2 spins a mature, thought-provoking tale to produce one of the most complex and unique RPGs ever released on consoles. In addition to its epic story, the game features a complex combat system that uniquely combines dynamic action and tactical depth.

Enhanced Edition features:
[*]Compared to the initial award winning PC release, the Enhanced Edition features lots of new and exciting content:
[*]Additional hours of gameplay: New major adventures set in previously unseen locations, expanding the story and introducing new characters, mysteries and monsters.

Witcher 2 is noted for it's excellent graphics so it'll be interesting to see how well the graphics and performance made it through to Mac. The system requirements are certainly aggressive. They've ported it through Cider?

Yep, the package looks native to me. Plays quite well, 1920x1080 on my setup.

Seems fine at "ultra" here (Mac Pro 2009, Radeon 5870) but I'm only at 1680 x 1050.

I'm a little unclear on what these requirements mean to me... if anyone could advise, I'd be very grateful. Will this run on my 27" iMac (2.8 GHZ Core i7, 12GB Ram, and an ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB)? The MacGameStore App says my video card does not meet the minimum specs, but it says that for the original Witcher, as well—which runs just fine at maxed out settings on my system. Not sure what to do here.

Of course I read that, UmarOMC1, my question is if anyone has an idea how non-supported cards might fare with this game—as I pointed out the 4850 was not supported for the original Witcher, either, nevertheless, the game runs fine on my Mac. So I am wondering what I might expect from the Witcher 2.

Its starting to look more and more like the game runs fine on lower end hardware, but the devs decided to only 'support' the latest n greatest cards because they didn't want to try and offer support for possible visual glitches that may exist in lower hardware.

Sure, Witcher 1 may run just fine with a 4850, but, they don't support it, so none of the stores can say 'your 4850 is still fine though'.

Thats why we have forums and people trying games on different stuff to know for sure :)

Wanna know the funny part though, their video card specs for Witcher 2 are lower than for Witcher 1... yet Witcher 2 looks a lot nicer with more visuals, go figure.

Yeah, I didn't answer your question either.

Thanks so much, Frigidman. Actually, I think that's as good an answer as anyone could give at this point! :)
