You know what's cooler? THE WITCHER 2

VP has it out on deliver2mac.com and its Steamplay on Steam. Only $22.50 launch price o.O

I bought this from gog.com at launch for PC. I wonder if I can get a Mac version somehow without paying again? Would be nice. Otherwise I'm out of luck :(

Mac specs are brutal. And people complained about Black Ops! I can run the game on High smoothly in windows, but it looks like the best I could do on Mac is low settings going by what the specs say. The Mac minimum is HIGHER than the PC recommended.  That's kind of scary o.o

I know, I've been saying lately you shouldn't compare games, even the same game, on different systems. Kind of hard not to though when there's an (apparent) giant difference in between how they run. I know the game is demanding, but geeze. Its like the performance got 50% worse or more on Mac. I've got the quad core and the 8GB of RAM, but only the Radeon 5770 1GB Card. And below it says that's "low" settings. Holy popsnizzle, since when does a 1GB card run a game on low? Is there even a Mac out there that could run this game on High, let alone Ultra?? And why does the 650M 512mb card run the game at medium? That makes no sense :P Especially when it loses out (by the specs) in recommended to the Radeon 6970M. Granted that's the 1GB version of the card, but still. Confusing I say.

If you ever wanted a Mac game to eat your computer for breakfast and melt it down, here's the one. Think Crysis in 2007 for PC..only we're now in 2012. Final word is of course, actual testing. But I'm still :o :o :o

Minimum specs:
  • OS X version 10.7.5 or later.
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo
  • Memory: 4GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GT 650M 512MB (on 1440x900, medium), Radeon HD 5770 1GB (on 1440x900, low)
  • Hard Drive: 25 GB free space on HDD
Recommended specs:
  • OS X version 10.7.5 or later.
  • Processor: Quad Core Intel
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GT 650M 1 GB (on 1440x900, medium), Radeon HD 6970M 1 GB (on 1920x1080, medium)
  • Hard Drive: 25 GB free space on HDD

Wow, what?  "The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut" won't run on an ATI Radeon HD 5870?  Really?

It wont? Hmm. I have the AMD Radeon HD 6750M (laptop). I wonder why the high specs, but, I guess from what Wumpus said, all the specs are pretty high compared to what the PC ran with.

I purchased it when it was released on steam and it ran just fine on my mid-2011 iMac, and I know its patched up to perform atleast a little bit better now so you should be able to run it. I remember turning down a few settings improved my fps immensely.

Indeed, you can! Not only that, GOG has officially introduced Mac support today. So rejoice and be merry! ;)

Sure it will.  (Or at least, if it doesn't, that makes no sense at all.)  The 5870 is superior to the 6750M.  Silly you for thinking a higher number is better than a lower number.

And this is why the system checker was one evil thing to figure out, and is still being tweaked as days go on. There is no 'magical formula' for all these details.

I was quoting the specs on the page that Frigidman linked to.  Here is the entire text:

Will not run on the following Video Cards: ATI Radeon X1300, ATI Radeon X1600, ATI Radeon X1900 XT, ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro, ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, ATI Radeon HD 4670, ATI Radeon HD 4850, ATI Radeon HD 4870, ATI Radeon HD 5670, ATI Radeon HD 5750, ATI Radeon HD 5770, ATI Radeon HD 5870, AMD Radeon HD 6490M, AMD Radeon HD 6630M

Yeah. They set one card as the minimum, but did not select any exceptions that were listed below. Complicated to explain, but, GPU requires are not like 100%.

For example, DIRT 2 runs just fine on an nvidia 8600, yet the minimum is a 9600. But see, Aspyr doesnt support the game on the 8600 or 8800s :/

So much gray area sometimes.

It's a great price and a game I'd play but if they specifically list my card as "Will not run on" then I'm not shelling out the bucks.  I had no idea my setup was so archaic.  Can anybody recommend a new high power card that will fit in my Mac Pro 2 X 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon?

Yeah, I don't know if it will run ok. Not till someone out there takes the plunge and reports back with their findings (its how I found out about DIRT 2).

The "Will not run" text was harsh, so it has been changed to what it actually means "Unsupported Video Cards". But I'm sure I'll have to end up putting back the inaccurate text though. Its all subjective, a total crapshoot... and more of 'guidelines'. I've even found the 10.7 requirements on like RAGE to be false, as it runs just fine under 10.6.8. Go figure? Publishers... they give the settings to use. Oh well!

As I mentioned, the 5870 is superior to the 6750M (by a lot, actually).  There is no card you can put in your Mac Pro that's better than the 5870, at least not without resorting to flashing PC cards.

Wait a second. I purchased this when it appeared on Steam earlier this year and other than the occasional crash (which was normal for anybody) the game ran perfectly fine with my ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB. These requirements say it doesn't.

http://snappy-app.co...07e8784426de7b8

Does this perhaps mean maybe there's hope that The Witcher 2 will run on my system? According to the Mac Game Store I also meet the requirements everywhere except for the graphics card, just like The Witcher 1.

I wish I had the answer. MGS is only going by what they were told from CDProjekt. And the card specs are insanely high.

I cant run witcher 2, cause it wants 10.7.4 =p
